The problem with NIMBYs is not that they don't occasionally ask logical questions such as "Why not build them on the other side?". The problem is how they ask them:
"Why not build them on the other side, which you can obviously do because my untrained eye guesstimates there is space. Obviously the big, bad private company only wants to take away my views and harm the environment, and it isn't making a decision based on factors I haven't considered."
NIMBYs assume they are experts (which they rarely are) and that choices are made simply to annoy them. Community engagement is good, but information gathering should always come before support or criticism. NIMBYs turn that process on its head and ALWAYS criticize before they know the facts.
