Yes those are unusual. Recreating the form of an English church but in materials very specific to Western North America. It's in a very affluent area of town so if any parish has the resources to maintain it, they would!

Beautiful church. The Arts and Cafts style is quite a rarity in Canada as far as I'm aware. I'm amazed by the craftsmanship required to build such a structure.

How many cities still have their Cathedral visible as a skyline landmark? Obviously, many cities in Quebec, even Montreal.

Notre-Dame can be seen near the far right.

In Ottawa, Notre-Dame Cathedral-Basilica and Christ Church Cathedral both continue to hold their prominence, thanks to their locations.

Notre-Dame Ottawa visible on the far left.

Christ Church 10+ years ago is now flanked by two high-rises.

The cathedral of Montréal is Marie-Reine-du-Monde, on René-Lévesque. Notre-Dame is a basilica.

St John's has a very prominent church in the skyline, though not sure if it is a cathedral or a basilica.

Overall though that's quite rare in English-speaking Canada.

St. Dunstan's Basilica in Charlottetown
Assumption Cathedral in Moncton
Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton

Of course, this has a lot to do with the relative paucity of high rises in the larger Maritime cities (Halifax excepted).

Somehow did not know that. Ottawa's Notre-Dame is a Cathedral-Basilica.

Wow, these Canadian churches are absolutely beautiful! I'm really fascinated by the diverse architectural styles and the way each one seems to reflect the unique character of its community. It's no surprise that Canada is home to such a wide range of beautiful churches, considering the country's diverse population and cosmopolitan cities. From the grand cathedrals of Montreal to the charming rural churches of the countryside, there's something for everyone in Canada. These Canadian churches are truly awe-inspiring and a testament to the faith and devotion of the communities they serve.

Victoria has some great large churches and cathedrals for it's size. Here's some photos of them that I've taken over the years...
