Hamilton International Airport should do about 700,000 passengers this year. Expect Flyglobespan to start announcing next summer soon. It will be as big if not bigger than this year.

There will be only Manchester and Glasgow for this winter but I have heard from a reliable source that they are working on a bigger showing for the winter of 08/09.

All of the businesses are booming at the airport.

Airport people are meeting soon with the parent companies board to discuses the airport and its future and expansion.

Hamilton International Airport Update

Work will start on the last part of the expansion of the international arrivals area and the new entrance to it soon. It is expected to be finished by the end of December for the winter southern program.

Flyglobespan will be back to 3 flights a day starting May 1, 2008. There is no official word if they will be adding more flights per day. Aircraft seem to be an issue. They are talking about making Hamilton their North American base. This will bring in more traffic.

Plans are being drawn up for the expansion on the departure area. It will be expanded out to the north of the terminal. The addition will hold over 800 passengers at one time. The present area now holds approximately 300 passengers. Space will be provided for more concession and food stands. There will be a larger duty free shop in the departure area.

The apron will also be expanded. The area to the east of departure area and up in behind the international arrivals area will be expanded. The aircraft will then park on three sides of the terminal with the international flights on the eastside in behind and closer to the international arrivals area.

The departure area expansion and apron expansion should be completed by the end on April.

Air bridges are a year to a year and half away.

US Customs per-clearance that was going in an about 3 to 5 years may come sooner than later.

Yay! This is wonderful news. Hopefully this will reduce the long line ups towards the departure area.

Finally air bridges! Best news!

Now that the Canadian dollar reached parity with the U.S. currency expanding the International terminal couldn't have come at a better time. Winter destination business will explode this year.

There is a tender in today’s Hamilton Spectator for “to construct an addition to the Departures Holdroom” at Hamilton International Airport.

It states “Construction is expected to start immediately on award of the construction contract”

Bidders tour is October 16
Tender closes November 1.

I email a contact at the airport yesterday to see what I could get and they said there is very little available. This new building is considered a temporary building. That is why they have not announced it in the media until they have awarded the tender. There are bigger and better things coming.

If you take a look at Flyglobespan website you'll see they no longer have any winter flights out of YHM anymore.

It looks like Flyglobespan cancelled all of the flights from Hamilton to Manchester and Glasgow from the beginning of December to the end of March? Those months are no longer in their reservation system. It end at the end of November and restarts at the beginning of April 2008. I have set off an email to someone I know at the airport that would have knowlege of this. I will most likely not here back until Tuesday. Lets hope that this is just a screw up in Flyglobespans reservation system. They have screwed that up before.

Yes it is official. They notified the airport late last week. No flights from December 1st to April 1st. They do not have the aircraft. The only B757 that they will have left by December 1st will be used on their run to Orlando. I don’t know why they don’t stop here on the way?
