I'll check that out KevinFromTexas......looks very interesting.

Here is a project proposed for Chicago in 1963.
It makes for very interesting reading.

Wolf Point is a choice piece of land where the Chicago River forks north and south (directly west of the Merchandise Mart).
The site is still undeveloped.....and is a parking lot as we speak.

Instead, we're getting this one. It's under construction now and will be our tallest.

Nahua Tower - 34 floors. I'm not sure how serious of a project this is. We had never heard of it before, except it was listed on an architectural website. The crazy part is this skyline photo was actually taken by an Austin forum member here at SSP. The building would have residential, retail, restaurant and maybe some office space.

501 Congress proposal. This design would have been "at least" 705 feet tall with 47 floors. However, the developer is now planning a larger project. It'll be two towers. One 30-story office building with 500,000 square feet. It'll have retail and be around 420 feet tall. It'll rise where this tower is located. Then behind the black tower he's planning an 830 foot, 70-story hotel and condominium tower. Both buildings (including the one shown here that was formally proposed) are designed by Cesar Pelli.

Well Patrick.....maybe he just got a little 'off' topic.
I still appreciate his contribution to the thread.

Do you have anything to contribute?

One thing I'd like to see from your area would be anything
concerning Frank Lloyd Wright's proposal for
'San Marcos in the Desert'.
(not that it's ridiculous..but it IS very interesting)

Not really crazy or ridiculous, but they're definitely different from what we're used to in Austin, even in Texas to some extent. I liked most of these, though the one for 200 Congress is a bit unsightly imo.

I like those

The first one is a little crazy but I like it, and the second one is just cool.

Yeah, I like the city hall one, if wasn't for that god awful dark beige/grey side, some kind of light cut stone would tie it together much better.

^I don't think thats the design for the new city hall, it's probably just a condo or something.

I'm sorry but...the Canadian Human Rights Museum is an abomination of an abomination. If it looks bad in renderings and models, it won't translate well to the real world. It already looks outdated. And for what? A 400 million dollar guilt trap built on the birthplace of Canada's sleaziest city. How Canadian is that? Demolish part of a park, and don't do it in style.

And it looks phallic. Really phallic.

Anybody have any idea how many floors this hotel was supposed to have?
