this still makes me so angry. this building has so much more potential than being reduced to rubble for another crappy warehouse distribution site. could have been a high school, could have been a huge gym, could have been offices, could have been anything other than another staging area for fucking semi trucks. this sort of development does nothing to rehabilitate that stretch of Pulaski, which is currently nothing than a complete auto sewer, and this seals its fate for the next 50 years.

I pulled this screenshot from the video to show the building in better context. I like this, good integration into the neighborhood, fits really well. It looks like all parking might be accessed through the alley because I don't see a curb cut.
Should make all the midrise fans happy.

^ If I'm correct, isn't that the building in which Google is taking an additional 100,000 sf?

I feel like it needs to be where downtown tourists can easily swing by, in a location easily reachable by employees living in poor parts of the South and West Sides. None of the old coalburning sites meet those criteria. A former Robert Taylor Homes site on South State might, as might something next to United Center.
My mind really didn't go to Sox Park or the UC at first but the more and more they seem like potentially good sites. Especially with the UC you have a captive winter audience, many of them affluent and suburbanites, who will there be in the area for nearly x100 times to year in a stadium that is often sold out. Many who have been overserved or want to do something pre-post game would head to a casino across the street.
Give the nature of an inside appeal in the winter and near sold-out stadiums, I think the UC makes bit better option compared to say Sox Park. Hopefully, there could be some spill over into Garfield Park for the better.

Another aspect is that I think we will likely get more than one location within 5 years or so anyway if this casino is any kind of cash cow. Our politicians are addicted to revenue and all streams from it.
Event though Pritzker called Chicago a "business city" so is every bit of London and it has 24 casinos. I'd expect there to eventually be a downtown-esque casino and a perhaps one in the vicitnity of McCormick Place as well.

I like the idea of a casino being by the UC. I also like the thought of a new Fire stadium out there. While were at it, a domed stadium for the Bears. Plenty of parking lots to go around. Boom, mega entertainment district.

I would hope the UC site is not under consideration. Traffic is already horrid there during events, a casino would only put more cars in a place not designed to handle them. Plus, we really need to regenerate that neighborhood as an urban place, not add more windowless auto-oriented montrosities. Sox Park is a little better as it is directly on the Dan Ryan (and the casino traffic can be separated from ballpark traffic). But it too has a tricky interface with the neighborhood.

Really the best place to stick a casino is either in an existing historic building where the designers can't eff it up, or in a part of the city already spoiled by industrial legacy or past urban renewal efforts.
