I feel like it needs to be where downtown tourists can easily swing by, in a location easily reachable by employees living in poor parts of the South and West Sides. None of the old coalburning sites meet those criteria. A former Robert Taylor Homes site on South State might, as might something next to United Center.

My mind really didn't go to Sox Park or the UC at first but the more and more they seem like potentially good sites. Especially with the UC you have a captive winter audience, many of them affluent and suburbanites, who will there be in the area for nearly x100 times to year in a stadium that is often sold out. Many who have been overserved or want to do something pre-post game would head to a casino across the street.
Give the nature of an inside appeal in the winter and near sold-out stadiums, I think the UC makes bit better option compared to say Sox Park. Hopefully, there could be some spill over into Garfield Park for the better.
Another aspect is that I think we will likely get more than one location within 5 years or so anyway if this casino is any kind of cash cow. Our politicians are addicted to revenue and all streams from it.
Event though Pritzker called Chicago a "business city" so is every bit of London and it has 24 casinos. I'd expect there to eventually be a downtown-esque casino and a perhaps one in the vicitnity of McCormick Place as well.
