I should also mention another milestone. Permanent electrification of the most southern portion from the new maintenance facility to the south terminus will take place on Monday. This will permit commissioning to begin and get us one step closer to a summer opening of the entire line!

Federal government is pledging $14.9B for transit over the next 8 years, including a $3B/year permanent transit fund for municipalities, starting in 2026. This will be good for municipalities so they can plan around a more stable source of potential funding without worrying about the provinces taking it away on a whim, like seen in Hamilton and Calgary. Hopefully it helps our smaller CMAs get in on the LRT action too.

That's awesome. A stable and consistent source funding will provide some much needed predictability. I often think about how highway 407 would've been been such a great revenue tool for funding transit projects in the GTA. Still can't believe we basically gave it away for a fraction of its value. That Mike Harris deal will forever haunt us.

Progress at Bayview Station. Bayview is the transfer station between the Confederation and Trillium Lines.

The Trillium level of the station, shut-down from Spring 2020 to late 2022, is being expanded as part of Stage 2. The platform will be doubled in length, a second track and platform will be added (described as an "emergency" platform, to be seldom used) and a pedestrian bridge will be added on the south side of the Trillium platform to connect to the future Trinity Centre mixed-use complex (65/56/23 floors). This new bridge will be integrated with a new fare gate entrance on along the existing MUP.

Progress at Algonquin Station, the future terminus of the Confederation Line 1. Fifth and final underground station on the planned O-Train network. It will be the transfer point for Barrhaven and South Nepean bus routes.

The current Transitway station is called Baseline, for the nearby cross-street. The station will be renamed once the O-Train extension opens to reflect the adjacent Algonquin College.

The original Transitway station was demolished around 2010 to make way for a new Algonquin College trades building. A tunnel was built as part of the project for a future O-Train station. This tunnel is being extended south slightly to accommodate the new station design.

The tunnel will also accommodate train storage tracks.

Here are a few images:

Approach from the Transitway. The tunnel is between the trades building to the left and the temporary Transitway station.

Work to extend the tunnel south.

Promises that are two elections away don't mean much. What they are actually pledging is the ~$6B over the next 5 years. Doesn't look that impressive when phrased that way.

For Calgary, it's not solely on a whim. The Green Line has gone way overbudget, the original idea was that $5B was enough to complete the line in one stage. Now cut down, it doesn't reach far enough to the newer communities of the Deep SE and barely crosses the river in the North, doing nothing to relieve the busiest bus corridor. And geotechnical challenges and cost-cutting meant that they had to go from a tunnel under the river to a new bridge, an option that rated poorly in 2016 (other than being cheaper).

And the story isn't over yet! It's been awfully quiet recently, it can't be long before the project is downgraded once more yet still be the bestest rail project ever.

True, it's at least nice to see this kind of initiative mentioned in explicit terms by the ruling government (which I can't recall seeing much of in the past, if at all), but you're right, $6B over the 5 years isn't much and even if the Libs manage to stay in power, the post-2026 $3B per year might just be another false promise.

Snapshots on O-Train Fans.

Lincoln Fields. This station will be the transfer between the outbound Moodie and Algonquin branches, along with a major bus transfer point for urban west-end routes.

More can be seen: https://www.railfans.ca/otrain/snaps...bruary-11-2021

Image of the station plan, with late evening service pattern. During the day, only the centre platform will be used, so someone coming inbound from Algonquin or Moodie can disembark and cross the platform to an outbound Moodie or Algonquin train. In late evenings, Moodie trains will end at Lincoln Fields. Only the Algonquin trains will use the centre platform, with the Moodie shuttle trains using the side platform. This is too be done so that the branches never get less than 15 minute service.

Lincoln Fields Flyover. This will be used to get Moodie trains over the Algonquin branch, west towards Moodie. After the flyover, the line will dip under Connaught Park for 270 meters.

Iris. A minor Transitway station that will be re-built as an O-Train station. The Transitway station was (is) at a signalized intersection with Iris road, one of the few on the old bus system.

Queensway station. This station will be decommissioned sometime in the next year or two, but will not re-open once the Confederation Line extension is launched.

Great pics. The Ottawa system looks nice, though I have heard they had a lot of problems with it .

I think your underestimating the importance of it. Most of these rail project are 5 year plus projects.

If the feds commit today to a a $1B project in say Vancouver; that is actually $200 M out of each year for the next five year or perhaps $166M over the next 6 years.

Quite a few problems early on with doors, switch heaters, power, flat wheels, break faults, however it does seem they've been able to fix most issues over the last 10 months. The pandemic and a change in leadership at RTG/RTM (builder and maintenance contractor) have made a positive difference.

Finally we're seeing some of the innercity/ more central stations forming in the Eglinton Crosstown. The following are two images of Bayview station, the first few supports:

The next station to the east, at Laird is a full box now, so they're further ahead in terms of construction above ground clearly.

O-Train Fans snapshots.

Bayshore Station (2025). No progress so far. Along with Blair (2019) and Place d'Orléans (2024) in the east, this station will preserve a significant amount of the Transitway infrastructure (built in 2000, expanded in 2009). It will serve as a major bus-rail transfer for the west-end.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...bruary-13-2021

https://otrain.railfans.ca/line-3-stations/bayshore

Holly Acres grade separation. A new Transitway section opened in 2017 between Bayshore and the new Moodie stop however, an at grade signalized intersection was built just past Bayshore. Grade separation is now being built for the O-Train extension.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/snapshot-...bruary-13-2021

Moodie Station (2025). The Transitway stop was opened in 2017 and a new O-Train station will open in 2025. No progress so far. It will be the terminus of Stage 2 west and serve the adjacent Abbott Pharmaceuticals and the new National Defence HQ (formerly Nortel HQ) and its 8,500 staff nearly 2 kilometers away. A bus shuttle and MUPs will provide options for the last mile.

https://otrain.railfans.ca/line-3-stations/moodie

Moodie LMSF. Little progress so far. It will serve as a secondary storage and light-maintenance yard in the west to compliment the main operation and heavy maintenance storage yards at Belfast.

Snapshot of Pinecrest station (2025), O-Train Fans. Seems they are building the new Pinecrest bridge that will go over the future O-Train Line.

South Keys station. This station will act as the transfer between the Airport Link (Line 4), the Trillium (Line 2) and the South-East Transitway (S.E.T.).

The S.E.T. will have two direct fare-paid transfers to Trillium, at South Keys (part of Stage 2) and Greenboro (terminus of Trillium 2001-2020).

At the north end of the The S.E.T. is Hurdman, the fare paid transfer to Confederation Line.

This is the tunnel between the two Transitway platforms. It will be extended to reach the future Trillium platform.
