Wow, awesome. I had no idea that this city existed or that there was this kind of grit/diversity outside of Toronto. Very cool geography too.

As a Swede, I'll never understand why there are skyscrapers in the US, let alone Canada. There are huge amounts of land everywhere, but the market still manage to create highrise clusters even in smaller cities. When someone discusses building anything above 5 or 6 stories, in Stockholm, people freak out and start babbling about church spires and tradition. The highrises we do have seldom have anything to do with land value either. Buuuut anyway, amazing shots! I especially love the one with the deco building in front of the office blocks.

If such a group existed, I would take their offer...

In Hamilton's case it's partly due to geography. The old part of the city is hemmed in between two huge gorges on the east and west, and by Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment on the north and south. But North Americans generally build highrises more for status than practicality.

These are without doubt the best I have seen from you. There is a magic, and a clarity that is delightful!
And of course there is Hamilton...truly a thing of beauty...as ironic as that sounds.

This thread really shows off a variety of your talents between the grit, skylines and people. Top notch!

Thank you very much for the comments!

Going through the archives, I have at least one more thread's worth of Hamilton photos, probably two. Then that'll be it.

Amazing!

Is there an afro-carribean festival in Hamilton similar to Caribana?

Unfortunately, I wouldn't say that all of Canada is this diverse, just the major cities. I wonder if the large immigrant population in Hamilton is due in part to its relative affordability and proximity to Toronto?

Yes, the festival is called Mardi Gras (despite being held in the summer). I posted a bunch of photos here: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=155748

About 25% of Hamilton's population is foreign born, mainly concentrated in the lower city, where most of these pics were taken.

Interesting shots. This is the first time in years that I've seen any pics of Hamilton (outside of a single shot years ago in World Book Encyclopedia).

I always think there is a limit to how much of a provincial canadian city i can take but i always get proved wrong, i can tell from your shots that you know it and love it so well.
