Took this pic two years ago in Montreal shortly after the terrorist attack in Paris. Not sure what church it is.

Wouldn't mind seeing more projections in cities and towns at various times. Seems like it wouldn't be too much of an expenditure, but I've learned that things usually cost a lot more than I would have guessed.

I think "churches" has been applied rather broadly in this thread to include all kinds of houses of worship, but if you want to start a separate thread then you certainly can.

Or change the title of this thread to "places of worship" or something?

Grew up in Brampton. Know someone that went to this Ukranian church often. Apparently no benches, except on the side for people who needed them. Had to stand up during sermon just like in the homeland. Also like in the homeland, built almost entirely with wood as I was told. Unsurprisingly...

MICHAEL MANIEZZO / SPECIAL TO THE STAR

That was in 2014. A small fire happened in summer of 2017 as well, and police suspect that one was deliberate.

Anyway, this is what it looks like when not on fire. They rebuilt it.

Another Ukrainian church I drive by once in a while in Mississauga. Has an interesting look.

There are many Ukrainian Catholic and Ukrainian Orthodox churches in Winnipeg, but one of the more interesting ones is St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic.

To the old Ukrainian folks who got this built in the 1960s, many of whom would have been immigrants themselves with memories of the centuries-old churches in the old country, something this 60s-bold must have looked like a spaceship to their traditionalist eyes.

Protection of the Virgin Mary Russian Orthodox Church in inner western Ottawa.

It's a familiar sight to tens of thousands of Ottawa commuters because it's very visible from the western Transitway (soon to be LRT) going into downtown from all points west.

In Burlington at the foot of the Escarpment. Nothing special, but it's the church next to 100 Huntley Street headquarters. Not sure if that name means anything to anyone else. But I always would flick through their programming on TV while growing up.

The Great Canadian Temples Thread (Non Church Edition)

I'll start with this Hindu temple off the 427 in Etobicoke. Hard to miss.

All from wikipedia or the temple's website:

Orthodox churches tend to be unorthodox. As far as architecture goes on this side of the pond. They add a nice eclectic look to our religious landscape. Always so unique.

I think people were already adding mosques, temples, and other places of worship in the Church thread.

I skimmed through that thread and saw two or three entries so I thought we could use another one. Hope those same people add those pics to here.

I like this Croatian one in Norval, Halton Hills, ON. I often take different routes when going somewhere. Allows you to see interesting stuff that you wouldn't otherwise see if taking the most direct or fastest route.

LDS church called Toronto Mormon, though it's actually in Brampton. Took the tour with my grandmother, who is very much religious, when it was brand new, and I found it funny that we had to take off our shoes.

As a young kid I always found the gold statue on top to be amusing.

As a teenager I got invited to the LDS church in North York off the DVP for a dance in the basement to honour my friend and other missionaries who just returned from a year abroad. Only dance I went to where multiple girls come up to you and ask to dance. Of course, it never lead to anything afterwards as you would have guessed.

Up above, that's a serious Buddhist temple for Canada.

This one in Mississauga is so rectangular that it doesn't really stick out. Do you think that it was an existing building and they simply added Buddhist features to make it a temple?

Though come to think of it, I'm not sure if there's that many impressive temples outside of churches.
