it is a true stat. there are taller mixed-use buildings out there of course (ie-condo/hotel), but it is the tallest residential-only building west of the mighty mississippi.
Okay, right now they are close to going on floor 53. So just 3 and a little more till' it reaches the crown. Now, the crown I think will take 1 or more months to complete.
has it been confirmed if the top will be lit from within or from the outside? I checked with the sales office a couple of months ago and they weren't sure.
Judging by how it the top looks today, I'm predicting (and hoping) that it will glow from the inside.
Im fairly certain that it will be lit from the inside. Though Im wondering how they are going to light the north and south end of the crown since it will basically be right up against the mechanical floors.

Thanks JAM for the heads up. I am looking at the Austonian now. One thing the photos don't show is that the outside border flashes between blue and green and back again about every 5-7 seconds. It's a much quicker and noticeable transition, unlike the slower one at Monarch.
I wonder if that is all the lighting for the top of the Austonian. They said it would have three parts, and looks like they have three parts there.
Caught the aircraft warning light in this one. It's sort of a strobe.
In this pic I took back in January, you can see the awning where the floodlights on the south side of the crown are mounted above the main roof.. There's also an awning on the north side where the lights are too.

In downtown Austin, Ziegler landed the contract for The Austonian. It’s no ordinary residential building. The Austonian, topping out at 60 stories if you count the mechanical levels on top, will be the tallest residential building in Texas when it opens this summer. It’s the tallest west of the Mississippi River, too.
Beating out some of the biggest brand names in architecture, including Cesar Pelli and I.M. Pei, the developer selected Ziegler’s proposed design of an oval shaped tower crowned with a lantern element that is visible for miles. Located on Congress Avenue near Austin’s emerging Second Street entertainment and retail district, The Austonian developers were proud of the site from the beginning.
“They said they had the No. 1 address in Texas,” Ziegler says. “And they didn’t want to under-build it.”

Tonite around 930pm as I headed north on 35 after work I noticed the Austonian lit red at the crown on the curved lighting fixture. Did anyone get a pic of this? As I was heading south about 10pm or so I tried to retrieve a camera beneath the passenger seat with no success. Wish I had made a detour to the Observation Hill on Butler Park and fetched it out.
