Look at all those cranes in that last picture of the skyline...amazing. I can't wait to head back home for Thanksgiving...will be interesting to see where things are by then.

Here's a little update with photos from 7-12-08. I didn't want to repost a ton of photos, so these are the leftover from my big update in the Charlotte | Development Summary thread and also the CHARLOTTE | Wachovia (2 Towers) | (1) 764 FT / 233 M | (1) 48 FLOORS thread.

As much as I dislike a lot of North Carolina based companies, I do enjoy seeing pictures of Charlotte's skyline. Great work everyone!

No, it would be behind one of the Wachovia buildings. A lot of the shorter buildings can't be seen from this view, partly because the land slopes down from Tryon St., or they are just blocked by other buildings (courthouse & government buildings, arena, The Park, Hilton, NASCAR, Ritz-Carlton, Odell, etc.) From this view you will be able to see Novare's office building that is currently under construction. It will be 15-16 floors and immediately to the right of their Catalyst condos (the under construction blue glass building).

It's about time they did something with this. Anyone know what the hold-up was on the center part??

I think originally there were some other plans for it, perhaps an office building. I guess they didn't have the money, so the elevator shafts on either side sat bare for a couple years maybe. Eventually they finished the exposed concrete on the other shaft and added a clock to make it a clock tower, only the clock face was too small so it looked a little silly.

Eventually they started on these condos during the boom, and had been working at a snail's pace. These photos are almost a year old, and just recently has most the scaffolding come down. I haven't heard hardly anything on prices and how many they have sold. Really, I think it is a very ugly block architecturally, but at least something filled in the gap between the (I think) Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn.

This photo, from mid October, shows some of the scaffolding coming down, and of course the NASCAR tower to the left:

I haven't been updating this thread because there's already one here on general Charlotte development, and a thread here for Wachovia/Well Fargo Corporate Center and one here for The Vue.

Nice pictures InitialD! Man, whoever allowed that I-485/Exit 28 style Hilton Garden Inn to be built uptown should be banned from the state of NC. I can deal with the many new glass structures, etc but that thing is just pitiful; what a missed opportunity for something Westin-like, smaller scale. Can they lace the exterior with fake brick or something...anything?

Other than that, keep the pictures coming....Charlotte's come along way baby and looking good.

Charlotte's looking good. The Wachovia center is coming along very nicely, as is the Ritz Carlton. Charlotte's going to look much different in another year.

1. is there any news on trump? has that been cancelled?
2. has any steel work been started on the angle for the top out of wachovia?
3. any new updates on 210 trade?

Trump and 210 Trade I would consider pretty much dead unless a solid news source comes out saying otherwise.

Also, the 30 floor 1 Bank of America is finally going up. The concrete core is several floors above ground now and the steel should be following it shortly. The Aloft hotel recently opened, but the Ritz-Carlton is still a little ways away from completion.

You can see the angle on the steel work for the Wellschovia in the photos above.

thanks initial. i saw the framing started on "wellschovia" (haha), i just wasnt sure how much progress had been made in the past couple of weeks. too bad about 210 and trump. those would have been awesome additions to the skyline. anybody have any input to the actual "liveability" of the CBD? other than the obvious highrise projects, is there anything to bring people in past 6pm on the weekdays? (ie mixed use, bars, retail, grocery stores, etc?) this is a problem raleigh has had for years and is just now starting to address. im considering a move to charlotte by summer. so far from what i hear, i think NoDa would suit me the best, but im also considering southend too. any thoughts? what are some neighborhoods to try and avoid so i dont get "homicided?"
