It's the burbs.

I live well inside "the first ring", whatever that is, and my neighborhood is most definitely a suburb, just a couple decades older.

And it's south of 63rd ave if you were every going to actually be able to define a arbitrary "first ring".

Not exurbs, if we're getting technical about it.

thanks for the planning terminology lecture. although i'm not sure where it came from as no one used the term until you delivered the lecture.

putting that aside, you are correct, it's not an exurb. but it's certainly not a longstanding central edmonton neighborhood either if we're getting technical about it.

most of what is now pleasantview was actually farmland that wasn't even part of the city until after the second world war. it was certainly suburban when it was initially planned and built out and, for the most part, it retains that very suburban character to this day.

ps. using the slang "burbs" to describe it is technically accurate. burbs is an abbreviation of suburbs, it is not an aggregate of suburbs and exurbs.

No lecture intended. My comment was too brief. What I meant to say that the area is absolutely suburban in design, but at least it's not sprawly exurban, the latter term perhaps used more often outside of Canada.

Anyhow, a happy Friday all.

cheers back... happy friday and happy weekend - the snow will be good for the lawn and it will give us one last weekend off before the yard demands them all.

Filipino fast-food giant Jollibee to open first Edmonton location

By Albert Delitala Digital Journalist Global News
April 28, 2019

Filipino fast-food giant Jollibee is to open its first Edmonton location later this year, part of what one food blogger says is a growing local appetite for Asian and other international cuisine.

The company confirmed to Global News it plans to open its Edmonton store, located at 3803 Calgary Trail south of Whitemud Drive, in the fourth quarter of this year. It already has four locations in Canada, including two in the Toronto area and two in Winnipeg.

Lixmila Serrano, who has run a Filipino variety store in south Edmonton for 20 years, said the new Jollibee location is likely to see strong demand.

Looks great. What is the concept?

We were at Bundok with two other couple last night for dinner. Everything was fantastic:

- Sea bream crudo
- roasted cauliflower
- kale/cabbage/kohlrabi salad
- pommes dauphine (stuffed with gruyere!)
- Fried chicken skins
- Gnocchi Parisienne (delicious!)
- Grilled Hen w/ miso glaze
- grilled striploin
- a couple chocolate cakes
- citrus posset (!)
