Walking down Portage this morning, when I looked down Carlton - it looked like they have a crane up to dismantle the northmost tower crane of the Sutton development.

I wonder if they would just take the Jib down.

Just spitballing - but Wawanesa going up makes the current set-up of that north Sutton Crane inoperable. They would need to move it (requiring a new crane foundation, $$) or change it out to one of those "luffing" type tower cranes I think.

Ya I mentioned that. Eventually the crane and new Wawanesa tower would create an issue. I spitballed maybe they would just raise the Sutton crane as needed. But seems they're doing something else.

Maybe they are going to lengthen the jib so it will reach all the way across Wawanesa site?? And use that crane. Would make sense to me and not require a separate crane, etc, when there is already one right there.

^ maybe they can do that, provided the existing foundation for that crane can handle a longer jib.

It just seems so complicated and convoluted with lots of liability concerns using a crane on a totally separate construction site.

It does. But haven't they already been using it? The plywood was put down, fencing within the site to separate the areas and then there were steel caisson casing stored in the Sutton site.

^ it did seem like they were using it for Wawanesa.

I guess the lawyers and insurance companies got something figured out.

I would think that would be problematic, as the lifting capacity is reduced the further out from the centre.

I figured Sutton would have to change to a Luffing type crane. Since Wawanesa will go up first, it will forever be in the way of the existing crane.

The one crane for TNS was quite long from what I remember. Add more counter weight on the back end.

But I think the TNS one had like 2 different sizes of jib on it. Had a step in the middle. Would come down to whether the foundation could support.

The crane at 360 Main is quite long. With two pendants supporting it. I feel like the sutton place cranes are on the smaller end.

I guess we'll see what happens. Who's taking bets??

So at this rate, with Wawanesa tower trying for completion 2023, we might expect Sutton to be up by 2026 or 2027?

With the tower cranes remaining in place, I was hopeful that Sutton would be re-starting in the nearish future.

If those cranes come down... I am not optimistic.

If they're actually just taking down the cranes, I suspect we'll have a nice concrete slab for a long time..

Maybe True North can buy what's there for $1,000,000 from Northland and do there own thing.

I wonder if they are actually raising the crane.

There was a semi pulling a trailer with long section of red crane column frame driving in that direction down portage Ave today.

^ I was gonna say the same thing. Saw that same long semi heading straight for downtown yesterday on Portage with a large red crane section.

I had a conversation with the PCL PM on Wawanesa and he said that they had the crane situation all worked out. There was no mention of removing one of the Sutton cranes.

Wawanesa won't have an issue because they will be rising faster than Sutton will and will be above the northern Sutton crane in no time. The issue will be for the northern Sutton tower, as that crane will not be able to complete a full rotation once the Wawanesa tower is up.

Thats what we've been talking about. Wouldn't want the new wawanesa tower damaged by the sutton cane.
