are you referring to the st regis site proposal..? or..? There's another 150m+ building being talked about????
No, I believe it is about what Canada Inns was proposing for The Somerset block / Radisson etc...$150 million development..CANADA PLACE............very few details so it does not sound credible but maybe after covid subsides.
It was a - very likely - lie to prevent Somerset from being designated a heritage building. Its generally agreed that he claimed they have some massive project just to prevent the buildings heritage status so he doesn't need to put effort/money into maintaining it. That nothing has been said about it in the last ~year should say enough.
Some are too young to remember the days where Credit Union Central and the Humphrey Inn were the biggest downtown developments in years and how those projects filled pages and pages of this forum hehe.
Ha... those were the days. At the time the city was still coming out of its 90s doldrums and population growth was minimal. I honestly wondered if we'd ever see any more substantial new towers built here.
Notable proposals are 285 Smith & Portage Place's twin tower makeover, with True North Square's final phases filling out the area around MB Hydro Place. 300 Main has nearly finished construction.
Hopefully the big boys go through (along with some.... changes... to 285 Smith), I'd love to get some winter skyline shots with a frosted tree canopy while I'm still living here
We need a 500 footer to put an exclamation mark on our skyline.
500 ft would be great but wouldn’t be that much of a standout on the skyline. Let’s go for 600 or 650! Perhaps it’s unrealistic but a man can dream can’t he?

Why stop at 650? Why not go 700 or 800? We can only dream, right?
