Pro: Such a massive investment in downtown Halifax could also serve as a catalyst for more development and could give some of the current proposals new life.

Not to sound too obvious but there's the actual core reason I presume they're building it...

Pro: To have the facility space to support and attract larger conventions in and to Halifax (and the spinoff commerce they would drive).

Pros:

Good mixed-use development, will bring people downtown to live, work, visit, shop, convene?

Like an updated version of Scotia Square; one of the biggest criticisms of S2 is its lack of interaction with the street (on pretty much every side) but Nova Centre seems to have a ton of street-level features

I also find it interesting that many of the larger office buildings including Nova Centre, NSP and Internation Place use blue glass, complimenting Purdy's Wharf and 1801 Hollis... Halifax is going to be blue the way that Vancouver is green

Cons:

Makes the WTCC obsolete... what's gonna happen with that?

Potential traffic issues associated with the new pedestrian section of Grafton Street... Granville Mall works because it's at the end of the street, but this is right in the middle of Grafton

Good points.

Does anybody know what will happen to the current WTCC if this development happens?

That would make the most sense, since it's an office building.

Plans are moving along for the HDC now. We are hoping to get the group online this summer and we could do with some help;

We are still looking for potential memebers to join the coalition. If you are interested in the group private message me (Bedford_DJ) for more information.

We are also looking for ways to raise some captial for the group to get online and start working. If you are interested in either donating or have some ideas of ways to get capital also please contact me (Bedford_DJ) and I will forward the ideas onto the others behind this project.

We have a facebook group now: Halifax Development Coalition (HDC). Please visit us and provide any thoughts or ideas you might have.

Hey Guys,

The HDC is looking for a logo design and this is your chance to get involved!

We are looking for logo that really brands the group and allows us to be visually recognizable.

There is no official prize aside from the recognition you will receive for designing the logo.

Feel free to post below or PM me for e-mail details.

May the best logo win!

Regards,

Worldly

I can make changes or come up with variations if you're interested.

or.. this one is supposed to resemble a sailboat, representative of Halifax. I'm limited to my skills in Paint, though.

So far this one would be my pick.

One idea I have is instead of a sailboat a drawing of the Town Clock (or another downtown icon) could be incorporated.

Please, no sailboats, or lighthouses, or other cliche-ridden symbology relating to this part of the world.
