Trinity Plaza Update: The Digging For Has Begun For 1188 Mission

If Trinity officials are correct in their estimate that it will take two years to finish the first phase of the new Trinity Plaza (1188 Mission), then the first tenants of Trinity Plaza might just be in their new homes before the end of 2009. For as a plugged-in tipster notes: “Digging has begun at 8th and Mission for the first phase of rental units at Trinity Plaza next to the Soma Grand.”

Dave! Dave! We need photographic proof. It has been too long in coming for me to believe it without seeing it!

Well, some excavators are there, and at least one had the engine running. Not much in the way of 'digging' going on:

Bonus SOMA Grand pics. Meh.

I think that construction trailer means it's really happening. They wouldn't move that on-site unless they were serious I don't think.

They have dug a big hole there in the foreground of my second picture above. I t was pouring when I went by, and so did not have my camera to take photos.

But, do you want such a wide, gigantic 'landscraper' in such an earthquake-prone area? I can't imagine this thing would be easy to build for crust movement and shock absorbtion.

Beautiful. What a great, inoffensive way to break down that otherwise bulky mass.

Not only are they digging a big hole where Dave indicated, but there is a rig set-up for what I assume is testing for piledriving. They are moving right along with site-prep.

No photo?
Now I'll have to trudge all the way down there when the weather isn't so horrible.

It's 5 long blocks away from MOMA. This sits along 8th. MOMA is on 3rd. Both are situated between Market and Mission.

I'm not sure exactly. I think it's one of the projects along Van Ness. Hopefully, Jerry or BT or someone who can give you a better answer will chime in. If you dig through the SF Rundown or SF Tidbits threads, I think Jerry posted some photos of that project taken from Fox Plaza. Sorry I'm not more help.

One block off--SFMOMA is in the center of the block between Mission and Howard on Third Street.
