After a long search for a venue to call home, the organizers behind a new independent, non-profit comedy bar and theatre is picking up the keys to new off-Whyte storefront this Friday.

But before the sledgehammers fly, the Grindstone Comedy Bar wants to give supporters a look at the new space at 10019 81 Ave, which formerly housed Old Hippy Wood Products.

The Friday night open house will also be one last fundraising push to get the space ready for a spring opening.

That North Irvine area is getting quite a few new arts establishments in the last year or two.

The area north of CPR Irvine and south of Whyte. May also call it West Ritchie.

Due to cold weather, the outdoor activities for New Year's Eve have been cancelled. Fireworks will continue but online viewing on the City's Facebook page is encouraged. Indoor activities will continue from 6-9 pm in Federal Building and pedway.

Meh. I wasn't gonna bother anyway because of the ridiculous 9 PM timing of the fireworks. I still think the "disturbing residents" excuse is utter bullshit, seeing that they have 11 PM fireworks every Canada Day.

That's not the excuse. They wanted to focus on family friendly and the Leg was not going to permit the midnight show.

So the concept of a supper club is you dress fancy, eat a communal dinner with strangers or acquaintances and then enjoy a live act? Sounds like the Mayfield to me, is this concept even popular with the younger generation?
I'm 34 and can't grasp the excitement of this, so I can imagine maybe 1 on Jasper going gangbusters for a few months then disappearing into oblivion as the romance wears off
Are there any "supper clubs" operating in town other than Mayfield?

Basically. A night out of drinks, dinner, dancing, music.

No dancing at Mayfield or Jubulations - just the show and food/drink

Ticketed for safety? Is this an Edmonton decision or is it from the organizers? Does this mean the event space will be all fenced off? If so, that's a major downgrade from the previous event in 2015 where people were able to move about freely and easily watch from different view points along the track.

Any word on whether there will be the beer gardens/entertainment space setup in the Shaw again?
