Maybe they can go back to the Lyric Theatre on King St West, former CHCH studio.

Maybe Innovation Park?
how about the other side of Gore Park - part of that awesome development proposal that Blanchard has floated

Torstar shutting down Spectator presses and looking to sell Frid Street building
If the building is sold, the newspaper will move operations to a new Hamilton location

The Canadian Press · Posted: May 24, 2019 7:34 AM ET | Last Updated: 2 hours ago
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamil...ding-1.5148081

Torstar Corp. says it will close the Hamilton Spectator's printing and mailroom operations this summer and look at selling the building.

The newspaper publisher says the printing work done at the facility will be transferred to TC Transcontinental Printing and other Torstar-owned facilities as well as other external printers.

The decision will affect approximately 73 full-time and 105 part-time staff.

In connection with the move, Torstar says it has extended its printing arrangements with TC Transcontinental Printing to 2024.

Torstar expects to save approximately $4 million to $6 million annually once the change is fully implemented. It expects to record a roughly $6-million restructuring charge in connection with the closure.

If the property is sold, the company says it expects the Hamilton Spectator will continue to operate a head office in a new location in the Hamilton area.

If they do move, it would be nice if they moved back to their original King Street HQ.

Looks like around 90 Spec staff remain.

If they’re headed downtown, Stelco Tower would be my hunch.

Central, accessible, large square footage and close to key political/legal/arts/entertainment/sports institutions, parking and transit. Symbolic echo of the Star’s HQ.

Plus they would actually be able to see the city they’re covering.

My condolences to anyone losing a job. However...

I find the endless incompetence and blindness of the MSM to adapt to a media revolution (that started a generation ago!) mind boggling. It's probably more than just a lack of vision, but is likely also a consequence of their size and general inability to maneuver themselves into a different space. That and the fact that the majority of their subscribers / viewers are likely in the 55+ category. Do you bite the hand that feeds you or do you continue eating that thin, lousy gruel you've come to depend on?

Now's as good a time as any to head into the unknown. You'll probably starve to death but what choice have you got?

The Spec building is in a prominent location and right on the future LRT line. Let's hope it becomes something special. A mixed use of condos with employment would be good.

The LRT isn't really accessible to this, there is a stop at Dundurn and King and one at Longwood and Main, not too far off but you have to navigate that pedestrian nightmare that is Dundurn between King and Main.

McMaster Innovation Park has bought 44 Frid Street, The Hamilton Spectator building. It will be officially announced tomorrow at 9 AM at their Longwood offices. They will be releasing some renderings of the proposed Frid Street building plus new renderings of the park.

I thought they should have moved into the Stelco Towers and take a floor. Call it the Spectator Building. It would look great with with huge "The Hamilton Spectator" and "TORSTAR" illuminated sign on top at each corner.

They were never going to move downtown. Most of their employees live in Burlington or the surrounding areas. Same with CHCH they may have promised a downtown office but it's unlikely it will ever happen. Too many out of town employees as well.

This is not Stoney Creek. It never was. It is only a block from Carmens.
