Same. Lots of love for this project. I imagine secure bicycle spaces And lockers go a long way when it comes to smaller units. Hope this one starts soon.

It will be sad to see that beautiful brown vinyl coverings go, but I think we will be okay.

What's the height say? 47m?

Also, much improved design IMO. I like the addition of balconies, the plain box with punched out windows was... meh

Yikes, did transportation make them take that huge chunk off of the corner of the heritage facade for a daylight triangle?

Happy this was approved (4 years later no doubt) but I sincerely hope that isn't the final design as it's crap

That's the north side of the building, so no. What is odd is the glass along the west side of the building on the south side - Is the brick not recoverable there or something? It breaks up the heritage facade in an odd way.

Yeah that's what I'm referring to. If you look at the plans there is a big diagonal chunk taken out of the facade at the corner of King and Caroline. I'm just wondering if they're going to repurpose the facade or do a total rebuild since losing the entire corner seems a bit extreme.

Found at the bottom of this article Councillors rezone Corktown plaza for proposed 27-storey development

"Councillors also approved amending a bylaw for a 13-storey new build in downtown Hamilton at the northeast corner of King Street West and Caroline Street North.

The plan is for a proposed mixed-use building, with commercial space on the ground level and 123 units starting on the second floor. It proposes a parking stacker system for 36 spaces, plus one barrier-free spot.

First submitted in May 2017, the application initially proposed a 16-storey building with 120 units and four floors of commercial space.

It also proposed saving the front of the building that's already there, but it was later found that the building wasn't structurally sound. Hamilton's municipal heritage committee accepted a report recommending demolition.

The first four floors will match the scale of the existing building, and the design will pay homage to its character under the cladding, said Daniel Barnett, city planner. "

I will have to wait to see good renders before I comment on the design but this is great news in general! Nice to see approvals moving along for a change!

Yes, the silly suburban daylight triangle was required by transportation once it was determined that the existing heritage building did not have enough structural integrity to be retained and integrated. Once that determination was made, the project was treated as a new build and not an addition, and as such the proposal was subject to additional criteria which included the provision of that daylight triangle.

That A&W next door to this needs to go. Or at least become a storefront version under a larger building... there will be lots of demand for fast food in the coming years.

Given all the development in that area, perhaps it won't be long before it's sold and something is proposed. Along with the parking lot just to the east of it.

I been saying this for years. There is no place for a single floor drive thru fast food chain with parking lot in the very heart of the downtown core. Don't get me wrong I love fast food and I especially love A&W but you are correct this belongs in a walk-in storefront version like you see all over downtown Toronto. This is a prime location for redevelopment with commercial/food at street level and mixed use above. Hell a row of fast food outlets would make a killing here when the new Mac residence is built across the street.

But anything is better than the current use of that location!

I forgot all about them.

Still didn't "fit" a downtown, but they were there a long time.
