Hogan’s alley was home to much of vancouver’s black community and included businesses such as vie’s chicken and steak house on union and the pullman porters’ club on main.

Vie's Chicken and steakhouse was the house by the dump truck, where the jimi hendrix shrine is now. After vancouver performances black entertainers like nat king cole and ella fitzgerald would go there after hours.
