The tower carries together with its twin on the opposite shore of Ostrich Lake the longest span of
an electric line used for vehicle power supply in the world. It has a length of 370 metres and is used by Ostrich Lake Ferry (German: Strausseefähre) for
feeding its ship "Steffi" with DC with a voltage of 170 volts. The used overhead line has a single pole. As power return two ropes in the lake serve, which are primarily used for
guiding the ferry ship.
Ostrich Lake Ferry is one of the few ferries in the world, which is propelled electrically with an external power supply by an overhead wire. It is a landmark of
Strausberg and a protected monument.
