So, this big-ass storm socks the Easter Seaboard from the Carolinas to New England and dumps a whole winter's worth of snow in many areas. Here in the city of Philadelphia, we got an official dumping of 23.2 inches of the white stuff. Yes, it was second only to the monumental blizzard of '96 (30.7'). All-in-all, I'd say the city came out of it pretty good. The roads, except for the small side streets, of which there are many here, are mostly clear. The folks in South Philly and the Northeast can bitch all they want about not getting their money's worth in city services, but task of clearing all of the streets is truly epic in scope. And now, enough blather, on to the photos!
South Philly, the day after.
These were taken the morning after the big storm around the Girard Estate section of South Philly. Normally this neighborhood is picturesque on an average day, but after a snowfall the cottage-like twin homes have a special charm.
I think my car is under there somewhere.
Colorado Street looking more like the state of Colorado.
Irony?
Rittenhouse Square
The first workday after the storm has Philadelphia's most posh square appropriately attired for the holiday season.
Fitler Square
Rittenhouse Square smaller cousin is all decked out in white for the holidays!
Do some people seriously not know what year it is?
I live in south philly and have to drive to work in bucks every day. Although fitzwater infront of my apt. was fine today some of fitzwater is still packed. but queen st. didn't even look like it got plowed at all! I was sliding all over the place! Had to move down to christian, which was perfectly cleared, which makes sense, I'm just annoyed with how selective the streets are that got plowed.
Great pics though, Philly looks awesome in the snow.
