It's still nuts to imagine how dense this area will be (more than it is already) once Travis AND Waterline are done...and even more so if/once the second Travis tower is built.

Is there any drone footage which shows the concrete pump used at The Travis?
My understanding is that it's been shrouded in an acoustic barrier from Echo Barrier. Yesterday, I spoke with a JE Dunn guy at the entrance to the construction site and he mentioned that it's out of sight, slightly below grade.

I bring this up because I'm a resident at SkyHouse, which is directly across from the 700 River St project in the area, which is creating major noise disturbances in the early morning hours --- 1x/week, concrete pump begins around 1am ; every weekday morning, (2) 400 kVA generators are energized. Both City of Austin and DPR (contractor for 700 River) have been contacted multiple times by residents and SkyHouse management with little action taken. I went about it differently by identifying Echo Barrier as a solution and reaching out to a rep at Echo Barrier to see if she could offer her perspective to CoA and DPR. She was shocked about the concrete pump without any acoustic barrier. All we've gotten so far is more empty promises from CoA/DPR and this has been going on since January. Residents on the lower north side have it the worst and many ask for transfers to other units on the opposite side on the building.

Is it really a bridge too far to ask for these acoustic barriers to be used?? The Echo Barrier rep mentioned that she has a working relationship with DPR in other regions (Chicago, NYC), and they are generally very willing to make these type of accommodations with the the community, so this seems unusual. Any other suggested actions -- contact the owner/developer, contact media to shame them into submission??

Worker rescued after ‘heat-related illness’ at downtown Austin construction site

Quote:
A construction worker rescued from a downtown construction site Sunday is now recovering in a hospital from a “heat-related illness.”

The Austin Fire Department tweeted late Sunday afternoon its crews responded to a worker in need of medical attention “from a crane scaffold about 6 stories high” off a downtown construction site. Austin-Travis County EMS posted the call came in around 3:43 p.m. Sunday at 80 Red River Street, which is close to the Rainey Street area.

I thought the same thing - I'm glad the building itself (you know, that stub sticking up at the back of the podium) is only at the halfway mark.

The size of the podium is just another reminder of all of the additional cars that are going to going in and out of the district. How are those pitiful little streets going to be able to handle all of that traffic? Unless something serious is done, it's going to be a nightmare...

Glad they're not stopping the tower right there.

Worth nothing a solid third of the podium is more units facing the river.

We'll see but I don't think this will be too much of a problem. Most people living on Rainey are not going to have rush hour car commutes. They will use their car a couple of times per week to run certain errands that are difficult on foot. A much bigger source of traffic are all the rideshares for people visiting.

Now, when I35 construction starts that could throw a wrench into things for sure.

Great point. I was also thinking that the second tower as approved would use the same parking. But I checked the approved plans, and the second tower will have it's own parking but not on a big podium like the Travis.

Rental. The second tower is approved as condo and hotel.
