DENVER | Embassy Suites Hotel | 215 FT / 65 M | 17 FLOORS

The Embassy Suites Hotel will be located at 14th and Stout Streets in downtown Denver, directly across the street from the Colorado Convention Center. The building will contain 402 hotel rooms and is slated to be 17 stories tall. There is no official construction timetable for the building at this point, mostly because the foundation of the old parking garage is taking longer than expected to clear. However, late 2010 or early 2011 seems to be a viable finishing point. Here are the renderings available for the project, courtesy of Dennis K. Smith Architects posted on denver-cityscape.com.

Elevation Rendering:

Initial development of the project began with the demolition of the Motor Hotel Garage, which was taken down over the past year. A photo at denverinfill.com shows the finishing work of demolition from August of last year.

Photos from this year mostly show just an empty lot. It is uncertain why there was a delay between demolition and the excavation of the building's foundation, but more recent photos (the past 3 months) have shown much more activity. The 'official' start of the project is thought to have occurred last month, with the digging of foundation and the placement of shoring walls. The most recent photos from Denverinfill.com show this activity (see bottom of post).

Look for further updates as this buiding is constructed .

Thread bump! The concrete wall of the old 20's Motor Hotel Garage is now gone. Maybe now this building will really get going.

pushing the dirt.

I have completely forgotten about this infill. I walked by the Hyatt Monday afternoon and saw the hole. There was only one worker on the project at the time and there was still a leftover underground foundational wall from that ugly parking garage. They seem to be taking a lot of time on this project. Have they run into some kind of hang up with financing or building approval?
Does anybody know what the timetable is for the completion of this project?

^No one knows what the construction timetable is as the developer, White Lodging, doesn't believe in press releases. Or any kind of information for that matter.

The current issue seems to be some sort of abatement process, probably asbestos. But construction seems to be sort of underway with a excavation demolition hybrid thing going on.

I doubt asbestos abatement since there are no structures onsite.

^But there was a structure onsite, Alpine Demolition is still working to remove the foundation of the old parking garage that was on the site.

It could be something found within the old foundation, or contaminants that leeched into the soil.

It would more likely be contaminating soiling as compared to asbestos.

1400 Wewatta sat with an open pit for 9 months due to some water table issues, but once construction started, it took off pretty quick. The speed had a lot to do with the fact that it was only 8 stories and that it was a steel frame. Does anyone know if this is going to be poured concrete like the Four Seasons and Spire or steel frames like 1900 16th?
