I tried entering Cira Green a couple weeks ago with some friends, and managed to stay up for ~5 min until being escorted out by security. According to the security, it would be open by the end of the winter.

I actually really like them. I found a few more renders for people that actually like house construction / design. The houses are actually very big.

Arch, those houses are not really my style but damn they good good!

On another note, I'm driving down Ridge Ave tonight coming up on Broad at rush hour. It's rainy, crowded and that traffic light gets jacked up so I'm sitting there with my window down so my windshield doesn't get foggy. I look up at the Divine Lorrain and there were lights on in some of the windows! Of course they were construction lights but damn, it looked totally amazing. And the words came out of my mouth, "The Divine Lorrain". This will be so nice when it gets done. It made me think of what people on South Broad must have thought when the Bellevue was all boarded up in the late 70's after the legionnaires' disease outbreak. I imagine that people were loving it when those boards were coming off and it was getting renovated.

I'll have to see the second one in person before giving thumbs up. The rendering suggests that it this could go horribly wrong with poor materials.

I totally agree. The wood framing beneath those solid-looking but hollow cornice beams, if not sealed extremely well in lastingly durable and waterproof sheething, will likely not fare well over the long term.

If you are going to build with simple materials like wood, it's best to keep the design simple and unfussy. The more nooks and crannies, the more likelihood of leaks, etc., over time.

So construction for this project has been going on for some time now, but I thought I would give an update on something being built in my own area(NW Philly). Lasalle University is expected to complete their new Business School by January, 2016. This is the design:

I drive past that relatively frequently, its definitely pretty daring for a Lasalle building. There is also a large, 4-5 story privately built student housing building (probably 20-30 units) right down the street and another complex that was completed last year about 2 blocks away.
