Okay this is my SimCity 4 region thread, of which I had one on SSC but of course can't even see it anymore. So I thought why not post one here as well.

I used the default region of Timbuktu, with of course a few modifications here and there, and I couldn't be happier with it.

This is the west side of my region, as of today:

My region so far has had three stages of city-building.
1.) Stage 1 - little to no gridlock
2.) Stage 2 - gridlock of roads, few avenues
3.) Stage 3 - gridlock of avenues, few roads

Each stage has proved to be exceedingly efficient. Of course, this could also have to do with the experimentations I do in zoning each time I make a new city. Currently, I employ a checkerboard zoning policy for commercial/residential cities, and a big slab policy for industrial cities.

I will do individual city profiles soon, but first I must go play with my region some to become aquainted with them again.

Cyprus Hill

This was the first city in the region, founded off of the Big City Tutorial city that original laid there. Needless to say, I seriously f***ed that city up with tornadoes and meteors . Cyprus Hill was for the longest time the biggest commercial power in the region, but it is now in third place I think. The commerical jobs is well over 400,000, and the population is over 200,000 if I remember correctly. I forgot to look.

The city's namesake, an exposed, tree-covered piece of land which for some reason has a large clock tower at the top:


The Downtown skyline of Cyprus Hill, headed by the ever elegant Chrysler Building. At one time the most vibrant area of the city, Downtown has had many ups and downs. Here you can see one of its downs:


The ever-bustling Midtown area of Cyprus Hill, just north of the main airport. Steady does it when growth is concerned here:


Originally, Uptown was nothing more than a low-rise dense area of town, but now it is home to two supertalls and a plethora of commerciallity. It's at the top of its game really:


One of the many lessons I learned from Cyprus Hill was in subterranean transportation. For you tards out there, that means the subways. They are a tangled mess, I'm amazed I was able to do what I did:

To answer your question, I sometimes use freeways, but have had mixed results with them each time. This transportation map is old (remind me to get a new one), but it shows the transportation of the Peninsula and half of the Island.

These pictures show about the same view as your second picture. This is Arrache, long time ago, when the population did not reach more than slighly over 2M.

^ That's right it not really realistic. It does the job in the game, but a real region would use a lot of expressways connecting to it's various airports, commercial areas, and it's seaports.

I don't go for realism in my cities, just development and success.

My region just passed the 9 million mark. I expect that the final population of the region could be around 15 million.

how do you get so much commericial development. do you have any industry.
