IIRC, the Old Town Oil building needs to come down too. And it looks like they're still open for business.

Good news

The article also mentions that they are about to break ground on the office tower on South Wells in the Loop

400’ is nothing to scoff at, but that’s still a bit disappointing. For a long time I’ve imagined that site could host something really impressive.

no, it's not an entire block long. the site in question is roughly 170'x140'.

it's a big site, but it's not HUMONGOUS or anything.

i'll take a 400' apartment tower over an ugly parking garage all day long. that's an easy trade.

Yeah, agreed. That garage is particularly ugly. Really, the only saving grace was that it had ground floor retail, but I'm pretty sure the apartment building replacing it will as well.

From the sounds of the article, the heritage buildings next to this garage that currently host Gallery 37 wont be included in the redevelopment, which is good news.

defiantly should of went bigger tower on that block atleast in the 700 to 800 ft range....would think view of millennium park and lake might demand some higher prices if the building would rise over the bunch over 300 to 550 buildings in the vicinity... Whenever i here its gonna be a Roszak building i automatically think of a 30 to 40 story building with nice glass and diff colors but architecturally nothing that will stand out among the forest so much but just blend in

So I was looking around Streeterville on google maps and I saw an empty lot that I hadn't noticed before either on maps or walking around. Its next to the Rehabilitation institute on Ontario street. Anyone know if there is any plans for this site?

Owned by NorthWestern, most recently used for facade mock ups for the Rice Cube. The building next door is a parking garage, with ground floor retail, very very disposable.

Maybe its their next project after simpson querrey. also do you know if there is gonna be anything where that big patch of grass is (used to be the hospital?) or is it gonna be left as green space, which is what id assume it will be left as, it adds a nice feel open to the area

Walked down wells a few weeks ago and saw Old Town Oil moved north up Wells. The old space is vacant.

Both the old location and the new location of Old Town Oil are old 3-story Italianates. Why do they need to come down?

Wells Automotive should go, but they probably make too much money now that all their competitors got kicked out for new highrises.

^ Damn. Luxury in Chicago redefined.

The best news is: the developer of that tower is also proposing One Chicago Square.

With that massive shot in the arm, they are much more likely to be able to finance their new project.
