How did you already know the heights on June 9th to create this with placeholders?

I saw these when you posted that day and looked all around to find mention of the project, to no avail, so just assumed it would eventually show up as 200 Queens Quay eventually did. I didn't know they were placeholders at the time and was worried they'd be more bland extruded boxes as rendered here. At least they get rid of that ghastly parking garage and bring colour and texture to South Core, which is about as much as we can hope for in Toronto.

One thing that Steveve's render shows is the growing chasm being created along University as the existing structures are being completely engulfed by the Financial District to the East, and the growing Entertainment District to the West.

If there was ever a place I would be in favour of tearing down an existing structure and replacing it with something taller, this would be the spot. The entire corner of University and Wellington is pretty expendable imo. The problem is assembling a site with multiple current owners of pretty valuable real estate is a troublesome development exercise.

Definitely prime real estate for future supertall(s). I'd add University and Adelaide to that list as well (south-east corner / 155-165 University).

Looks great steveve, you should add a couple of generic supertalls in those spots to see how they look...

Excellent work Steveve! Thanks s there any chance you have a similar cg model of the city circa 2000? Would be wild to see the 20-year change.

I've got a few ideas in the works for some growth timelines. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, here are infographics highlighting new development:

Almost all of York Street is also expendable and feels like the very poor cousin of parallel Bay Street. The 20-storey scale and humdrum architecture of York St. kind of reminds me of one of those downtown Ottawa streets south of Parliament Hill.

Steveve, that’s amazing!

Honestly awesome. How do you do it? I take it you started with the City’s 3D model, are you working in Sketchup? Are you hand making each model, or getting them from the city somehow? They seem super detailed.

Are you planning to add the missing buildings? I’ve noticed you are missing quite a few between Bathurst and Spadina south of Queen. Presumably that’s just because they are all smaller buildings?

Thanks! I initially tried using the city's open data model in SketchUp, but I wasn't able to run it on my computer, as it kept crashing for an indefinite period of time every time I tried to modify it (it didn't help trying to run it on an older MacBook). Those files are incredibly large and detailed.
So I had to start assembling one from scratch. Some of the models you see are based off of modified versions of ones you'll find in the SketchUp 3D Warehouse, mainly older landmarks like City Hall and the CN Tower, others needed to be built from the ground up, and buildings in development are modeled off of planning applications.
You're right! There are some missing developments in that area. I must have overlooked them, they're smaller ones but I'll definitely want to add those in.
