Smile The best Hotels in New York?

Hi all
Treating myself to a 3 night trip to New York for my 40th at the beginning of June 2011 (never been before) and wondered if anyone had any advice on hotels?
Thinking either the Sheraton , Mela or W , all look pretty central around Times Square.
Any help greatly appreciated

The Standard in the Meatpacking District is pretty awesome, and in a good location.

I just stayed at the Pearl off Times Square (233 W49th St) and would recommend it for anyone wanting to stay in that area. A small, new hotel that was really quiet at night, plus a great complimentary continental breakfast. The single room that I had was very large by New York standards.

I stayed at the Roosevelt on Madison Avenue which is very central and very close to the following tourist hot spots:
Empire state building
Rockefeller Centre
Grand central station
Central park
Times square.
I was so happy with the location and service that I will defiantly consider staying there again.

If you have a decent budget then you can go with The Langham hotel.
One of the best hotel in new york that I ever visited.
