That dance hall is, of course, the much already mentioned Flores Magón anarchist hall located near Mott and Cesar Chavez (Brooklyn.) Later, Communist bakery (I think,) mural contained within painted by Pollack's brother, and later 70s and 80s punk club. So much more to this building, too much to rehash.

Has anyone heard of Yachiyo? I take it that's the name of the restaurant (the restaurant appears to be the small shack-like building behind the larger building in the front.
The building at the end of the block appears to be a hotel. (there's a small sign)

I hadn't heard of Yachiyo, e_r, but this c. 1952 image shows the same corner building in your photo on the NE corner of
N. San Pedro and Jackson Streets (Jackson was one block north of 1st Street). The three-story building down the block
seems to match the one in the UMC photo, and the two smaller buildings in between might be the same, too:

The shot of Lola stopped at the intersection I recognize as looking south on La Cienega from Beverly towards Third, but I don't know about the shot with the Shell station.

Wow, Brew 102, gasometers and an old vic--real old tyme L.A.! A building like that would now go for at least a $million in S.F. unrestored, and several million restored.
Agree we're in Burbank. There was a Newberry's at 3610 Magnolia, and a McCoy Shoe store at 3604.

The Vega Food Center was across the street in the next block at 3713 Magnolia.
There was an Akron on Hollywood Way, across from Albin's Hobbies & Toys, which is now the Train Shack.
I remember going to the grand opening of Newberry's in the early 1950s. The California Theatre opened around the same time. I saw The Day the Earth Stood Still and Rhubarb at the Magnolia in 1951 and later The Birds and the Bees and Sing Boy Sing. Has anyone heard of these movies, much less seen them? I know everyone has seen The Day the Earth Stood Still.
