Front yards that are completely paved are also non conforming. The yard needs to be at least 50% greenspace. On a lot of narrower lots, it is not possible to add a parking pad without taking up more than 50% of the lot. Wider lots are also often in violation because they still pave the whole thing to fit 2 or 3 cars there. It all adds up to the same thing - looking like shit.
There may be a bylaw crackdown on these illegal driveways in the future. I support that, although the cost of removing them will be an issue for many home owners. Perhaps the city could offer the services of its own work crews to remove driveways.
