The Block is behind schedule as it should have been completed last year. BTW I just noticed that, at 240 ft, the Block is actually taller than the 209ft Exchange.

Really awesome drone shots I don’t think I can say it enough as we come closer to completion it really fits in great with the skyline in the first and last selected photos. I love the detail the “cut out” side with the white lines if you squint and over think it kind of reminds me of the white lines in an Albert Kahn designed factory. Lol.

As I’ve said before I dig the modern internationalist vibe the front facade. It’s almost like getting that great city defining internationalist tower that was never built in the 60’s or 70’s despite Miniru Yamasaki being Detroits most prominent architect.

Bit of wistful thinking on my part I know but it’s a great development and I’m really enjoying it come to fruition especially after making it through Covid and the post Covid work at home realignment.

Bedrock has done a good job of learning the lesson of the Ren Cen with their past developments this project is taking forever but I’m hoping it’s because it’s being done right.

Someone took this photo a couple days ago from Highlands on the 71st floor of the RenCen:

Looks like the Edition Hotel has pulled out from this project. That's a bit of a bummer. Any word on the flag that will be taking over?

It's been removed from the 'Coming Soon' section of their website. Looking at the list of existing and proposed Edition hotels, Detroit seemed like an outlier, so I'm not really surprised to see it's not happening. Hopefully the development team is able to find a new hotel flag, as I believe the hotel is the primary occupant of this building. Dan Gilbert is really willing this project into existence, as there's no way it'd pencil out without his underwriting. If only every city had a Dan Gilbert!

Looks great! With those spoked roads, I always have trouble comprehending those aerial photos of downtown - buildings on so many different axis and orientations.

10 years ago, any plans for this site were just rumors and inklings. The site was still owned by the city and no deals were made yet.

Technically, groundbreaking occurred in December of 2017 when demolition of the previous underground parking garage began. The transition from demolition to new construction kind of occurred around 2019-2020. The only pause in construction was during the pandemic, but otherwise its been on schedule.

The last reported total cost was $1.4 billion after an initial estimate of $900 million. Most of the cost increase was attributed to the impact of design changes that occurred after groundbreaking and some pandemic inflation.

Ouch $1.4B feels severely over budget even with inflated construction costs.

At least it is being finished and the city can realize the tax benefits and the revitalization of downtown.

I'm surprised that they were able to pull through with that kind of cost over-run.

Looking great from Comerica!

What a fantastic enhancement to an already spectacular ballpark skyline view.

^ I remain unconvinced that there is any kind of tower that is under construction here.

Back in January a trademark officer determined that the name "Hudson" or "Hudson's" couldn't be used as the official name for the project because it was "too similar to existing trademarks". It's likely they've been waiting for this decision before deciding on an official name. We should get one soon I'd imagine.

It just sits there until the next crew that needs to finish off that part of building need to remove it.

I'd assume they do plant it somewhere eventually or like add it to decoration around the building somewhere.
