The charms of Winnipeg

Just wanted to share good and warm impressions of this spring in Winnipeg: i can walk down the street in my neighborhood and see kids playing in the street, people walking their dogs; from my backyard i can see people canoeing in the Seine river. Today the weather was awesome, just perfect, the trees are blooming and the air is smelling good... gotta love the urban forest.
I can't believe this was the same frozen place of few months ago... Now let's hope it will stay dry for some more time, and the bugs will never come up.

I hear you. My street, the entire city, has come alive in the last couple of weeks. This morning my wife, daughter and I were walking on Selkirk Ave E., when we met an old man named Ziggy. He invited us to his verandah for tea, cake, and Polish cigarettes. This afternoon, we were at my grandmother's house in River Heights below Corydon. At the playground, Jewish kids were running around wearing the appropriate gear for shabbat, and their fathers come to tell them they're going to study. Then tonight, when I get home to Point Douglas, I walk over to Euclid and Austin st. and watch the Lady of Fatima church hold their outdoor service and procession. Then walking home, passing neighbors leaning up against eachother's fences, or the odd person still sitting on their steps or verandahs.

Everything looks so much better with leaves on the trees, more people out, and dusk that seems to spans the entire evening.

You just don't want to go inside anymore.
