That steel frame definitely gives the impression that it's materially higher than it was before. She's getting there!!

After construction had begun, Nutrien expanded their leased space by a couple of floors. I wonder if they would have build it up to 20 had they made that decision earlier.

Or would they have built that high at all given how the work-from-home model has potentially killed the office work environment long-term? I know my office downtown is going to be significantly downsizing when our current lease is up next fall with talk of only having an office about 1/3 the capacity.

I've walked it a few times already. It is quite a bit wider so I can actually ride my bike on it. The barrier between pedestrians and traffic is also now taller than my hip which should help with splashing and certainly makes the walk feel safer.

SO tired of seeing that rendering... wish it could be scrubbed from the internet. It would have been nice if they bothered to make a new one, as built.

This one is just a reminder of what might have been.

Sept. 17 Pics...

Sorry these pics are so big. I meant to make them smaller. but I don't have time to resize them again...

^^^ They are starting the atrium on the south side

^^^ Nice work if you can get it!

^^^ From some angles it seems pretty tall (for stoon anyway). Here it looks quite a bit taller that the east tower.

Alt Centre's photos above are showing the first of the architectural "tree" columns getting erected in the winter garden area in the SE corner of Nutrien Tower.

Nope. That center section and the top of those Y-shaped columns just getting installed are pretty much the top of the tower.

Sorry, but we're not going to see anything much higher than what's there now. The rendering is misleading - or more accurately, the design of the top of the building has changed since the rendering.

5 new high rises (2 of them UC) in the last 2 years is pretty amazing for a metro of ~340 000.

Have you guys noticed an uptick in inner city vibrancy the past few years?

thanks for the remarks! One thing we haven’t seen in the last decade is outer renovations to quite a few of our older condos. I feel like we will finally see that thanks to these new additions making a lot of our older condos look aged.

Downtown is fairly vibrant / semi-safe. Our election occurring this fall is highlighting the need for more social assistance to make it feel more safe. Crime is fairly bad downtown for a city our size, but changes should be coming after residents and business owners started doing some kicking and screaming to get city and province working towards allocating more funds to social assistance focused on the downtown core. https://thestarphoenix.com/news/loca...-deeper-issues

One other thing our cold downtown isn’t working towards but should is adapting better to our winter climate. I personally am looking at moving out of Saskatoon to a city that has nicer winters - I know I wouldn’t be looking and fearing winter so much if the city had better ways of staying warm in Nov-Mar (ie heated bus stops, better sidewalk cleaning, skywalks that connect condos to commercial). Looks like that is never happening though, so off to a warmer city I go!
