Long Weekend trip to Banff/Canmore/Calgary

First day of the trip it was rainy, second day sunny, third day snowy, fourth sunnyPhotos sorted by city/town. I stopped by Calgary for a bit on the way back and was planning on taking more pics, but my rechargeable camera finally gave out. All pics by me.

Banff,Alberta

Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel

The recently expanded sidewalks are proving to be a wise investment

Gotta have a Mcd's

A lot of interesting architecture in Banff

One of the small indoor malls along Banff Ave

Lots of streefront retail off the main strip too now.

Unfortunately it was really cloudy most of the time.

Free Parking!!

Lake Minewanka, about 10km from Banff.

Canmore, Ab ( smaller resort town approximately 20km from Banff), small town but lots of development in the works, including the huge silvertip which will begin construction shortly I believe.

Where I stayed

Half the buildings in some areas are currently under construction

Lots of Cabin style designs in Canmore

Three sisters mountains on Saturday August 30,2008

Calgary, Alberta.
New towers under construction in almost every corner of downtown, here is a few pics.

Stephen Ave on a quiet labor day holiday.

Colors, one of the soon to be completed condo towers in the beltline.

A recently completed mid-rise tower

I don't think I have ever seen a photo thread on Banff/Canmore before.
Good to see, especially with the variety of weather you had!
One tiny correction: it is Colours condo with a 'u'.

^ so angry.

Great photos, I was in Invermere over the long weekend and when I drove out there, there was only tiny little patches of snow at the very peak of the mountains, and when I drove back the snow line was only about 100m above the highway.

What other small-town gems in Canada rival what Alberta has with Banff?

Nice pictures. I can't believe that people are wearing Winter coats and that the place got snow, all in August. I know it's Canada, and I know it's the mountains, but it's still very strange.

Yeah tell me about it. It was really cold/windy/rainy Saturday night, but I was still shocked waking up Sunday morning to snow. First time I've ever seen snow in august. Kind of a cool feeling actually.

Jasper = 350km west of Edmonton
Lake Louise = 1/2 between jasper/banff
Whistler = 2hrs north of vancouver
mt.tremblanc = outside montreal

those would be the ones for "alpine" rivals.
