I haven't been down Lake Avenue in a few years but the structure is still there, isn't it? As Macy's for a time and other shops, restaurants -- a national landmark, I believe.

Yes - still there, still Macy's, and still looking pretty much the same. I won't post a streetview pic; there are too many shade trees lining the sidewalks for any kind of decent view of more than just small portions. Those 3 palms trees are still there, too.

Oh Yes. You dressed for that outing. For me at age 6 it was a suit and tie. Nothing like being uncomfortable in a wool suit and having to be on your best behavior. You knew you had crossed the line when mom "gave you that look" I did not enjoy going because I'd rather be playing with my friends. I still have memories of these outings 60 years later. I always ordered the PB&J. I recall it came with the crust trimmed from the bread and sliced into four sections on the diagional. More like four little finger sandwiches.

The big deal at Bullock's Pasadena was the day after Christmas sell. I went along for one of those adventures. I remember all of the women were outside awaiting for the doors to open. When opened I was pushed out of the way and knocked to the ground from the women rushing through the door! I remember a lot of screaming and shouting too.

The 1909 City Directory has a listing for a plumber named John M. Eustace at 830 Ceres Avenue. I wonder if that's the J. Eustace in the picture. The shop in the picture seems to be numbered 708.

As a regular peruser and occasional contributor to this wonderful page, I've noticed some interest in the now long-gone Garden of Allah Hotel which stood at 8152 Sunset Blvd (or 8150 or 8080 depending on who you're listening to) from 1927 to 1959.

When the hotel was razed to make way for an eyesore of a mini mall, a scale model was built and put on display in the (then) Lytton Savings bank that still stands there today (albeit under a different name.)

I've been trying to track down that model, ever optimistic that it still existed and recently I found that it did and the guy who has it kindly let me see it.

I thought fans of this website might like to see some of the photos I took. Here are four of them:
