I must admit, I don't really see the point.

Yes, they could certainly add some planters, trees, proper seating and bus station and just make the street more attractive but outside of those relatively cheap improvements, I think it's a bit of a waste of money. It is now nothing but a strip mall route and nothing they do is going to make it more appealing to actual pedestrians.

The money would be better spent on Old East or the section of Dundas that connects Old East with the downtown to make it one solid pedestrian route.

Dundas is getting completely rebuilt from the sewers on up, from First to Clarke. I think spending some money in prettying up the streetscape after that would be well spent.

That's very true, if they are already tearing up the street they should rebuild it in a more esthetically pleasing way.
