True, but doesn't change the fact there were some who did not like him. Especially after he went to Toronto. Flutie was actually pretty tough too, by my recollection.

Abbott's not agreeing or disagreeing with that opinion, just using it to tell a story.

Stelco paid roughly $20 million for 40 percent share in Tiger-Cats, Hamilton Sports Group: report

https://3downnation.com/2022/01/27/s...-group-report/

Interesting, essentially putting the value of the team at $50 million. What was paid for the BC Lions?

I would think bombers and riders must be worth 100 and 150 million then.

Just want to point out that Stelco paid $20M for 40% of the Tiger Cats, Forge FC, and the lease at THF. All of them combined place the total value of all three at $50M.

That's an impressive figure. I guess there had to be a reason that rich people still want into the CFL.

I would think elks stamps and red blacks would be similar value to tiger cats. Argos lions and als in their current state probably very little maybe 15 million I would think. If rebuilt properly they could be in similar value to what Bob Young has done in Hamilton

At one point Braley wanted $40 million for the Lions but by the time they sold last year the price was reported at around $12 million. Kind of sad but all that heavy lifting that Braley and company did to build the crowds and I'm assuming sponsorships up in the late 2000s had all but evaporated by last year and the price reflected that. He would have made out like a bandit had he sold a decade earlier.

I think you'll see some positive change coming out of BC. If Rourke can do well I think that will become a national story. I think guys like Doman and Cui don't see it like the old school guys did. As Cui said, the guy on the Internet (anywhere in the world) identifying with the Elks brand and buying $500 worth of merch, is he not as good a fan as the guy in Edmonton who goes to the games. I'm feeling pretty good about the CFL prospects in the next year.

I was watching some Youtube vids of CFL vs NFL and almost all of the American fans had positive things to say, it's the Canadian "haters" who are the problem. I finally figured it out about when I see things like such and such has "outgrown" the CFL. In no other country does a national league get denigrated in favour of a foreign league.

My analogy for the "outgrown" thing is a teenager being embarrassed to be seen with his parents. It's not the parents who have the problem, it's the kid's low self esteem that he has to be accepted in his peer group. All the kid has to do is grow a set which usually comes with age and then they find their parents aren't so bad. No one is forced to like the league, just don't be a douche, it's like kicking a sick terrier while you're feeding the big healthy American mastiff.

Banks will not be back in Hamilton. No surprise -- younger players are ready to step up.

https://www.tsn.ca/hamilton-tiger-ca...ways-1.1751392

I think he still has some juice left in the tank, but he's not the player he was before the pandemic and it really showed last season even when he was healthy.

I'm amazed that Banks had as much longevity as he did. 3 years in the NFL and 10 years in the CFL is very impressive for a 5'7" 150 lb guy.

Plus the pounding he's taken at times. When he was more elusive it didn't matter as much, but at his size when a LB or DB runs you over, the physics is cruel.

I could see Burke bringing him to Ottawa for a last hurrah, especially after losing Dedmon. But his utility as a return man is probably limited and he's better kept in the receiving corps. Tough decision -- he's been a fan favourite, and a real contributor to the team's success, but the adage "it's better to move on a year early than a year late" probably applies and I doubt Hamilton was going to offer him enough money to make it worth his while.

That's what made Wally B so successful, he was able to recognize that better than anyone and move players out.

Yep. And Ferri wasn't a small player... more than 220 lbs.

But 220 meet 350. 350 moving about as fast as it can go.

I just replayed that, the sideline mic picked up the thud. That wasn't a needle prick, that was a full body, stick your finger in the light socket shock.
