Was surprised to see the old Princess of Acadia docked over at the WDCL property while I was home for a funeral.

His first photo is taken from the Keelson which was the first building and the building that was a sales success. The Anchorage meets the description of your last sentence. The Killick is apartments, not condos, and heavily advertised in the media as apartments, and a walk along Alderney Drive will allow you to see the 'Now renting - Killick ' 100 feet long plastic banner on the chain link fence. The banner has a phone number, you may want to call them. Or buy a QE2 Lottery ticket and you may win the 3rd floor unit, the view is nice - and should be available for many years.
The units appear to be a higher standard than the Anchorage.

Breakhouse has been hired to work on the next phase of development, which is a pair of ~18 storey towers attached to commercial space. There will be about 400 residential units. Should be interesting to watch.

I like that each pair of buildings has been a bit different, and that the design is evolving over time. When King's Wharf was first proposed I was worried that construction would take place over about 20 years but that a bunch of more or less identical 2005 designs would be built.

I was interested to hear about their criticism of the public realm between buildings. Sounded like part of their pitch for this next chunk of work was a warning not to ignore how the buildings relate to exterior spaces that people will actually use. Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Are these in addition to the 30 story tower?

Yep. Apparently the shorter towers will be going up first. There are many phases remaining.

It does seem hard to get the public spaces right in these developments. There are a lot more sterile multi-building complexes than there are success stories. I think the difference is purely that organic neighbourhoods are adapted by residents slowly over time based on real needs, whereas grand plans are speculative.

Where did you hear about those criticisms? I'd be very interested to read those as well. I think there is a lot to be learned from the first phase of this development to make the rest of it work more cohesively.

Before these can be built though they must build the above grade access over the rail line.

MallTovahSnosha sounds like a Yiddish publication.

Damn, I don't have a subscription.

Anyway, cladding is now going up on the building.

I also found out that the space in between the Keelson and the Killick will become an HRM owned park. Not sure how I feel about this.

I really hope that they soon get to build something on that site with a varied height! The table-top effect is pretty darn noticeable at this point.

I think the rest of the site is supposed to have buildings that are all different heights from these 4.

The phasing is covered here: https://www.halifax.ca/planning/appl...312Details.php

The renderings are pretty vague but they are indeed proposing varying building heights for the rest of the site. The 4th building under construction now is the end of "phase I".

Hearing rumblings that the rest of this development is in serious trouble of being delayed or cancelled except for the iconic tower, which rumour has it may be changed to hotel/residential.
