These are some links for the Dundas St. transformation project to start in 2018 downtown between wellington Rd. and the Thames river.

I like the idea of the "flex street" but what will Dundas look like on a regular day? Are they getting rid of the on-street parking and widening the sidewalks?

It seems as though the roadway will run normally in two ways on most days, although the roadway will look SIGNIFICANTLY altered judging by the nature of this project. Meaning less defined curbs that slant into the sidewalks, perhaps room for trees. I wouldn't be surprised if on street parking is removed from this roadway, though I really don't know. It seems that you have a few good questions that we won't fully know until the project begins and ends/we find more info somewhere.

My understanding (possibly wrong but what I gleaned from prior discussion) was there wouldn't be any curbs, just different colour bricks or whatever they make the road out of, to delineate the roadway. But that the whole thing from wall to wall would be level for those days when it's closed for pedestrian only events. And of course, the up slopes at Wellington and Ridout from the regular roadway.

From some of the pictures on the site it looks like there is still street parking, but it is significantly reduced.

More information on the flex street. Living downtown I am excited for this street transformation. I think this will help draw more people to live or visit downtown. This section of Dundas has an overall bad image. New restaurant's are already opening up here and this street transformation should change the bad image.

I've seen conflicting reports - Eastern limits is Wellington but is the western limit at Ridout or the Thames River?

If Thames River, it could really disrupt traffic coming into downtown on Riverside. During events traffic could be routed if the Queens bridge was temporarily two-way and up to Ridout.

I have seen the same. I thought it was until Ridout because the Thames river side was a different phase with the One River project.

New website: https://www.dundasplace.ca/
-You can sign up for updates, which I believe are being sent daily.

Full construction 'officially' starts Tuesday, April 10. This is the date when the road closes between Ridout and Richmond.
-There has been a lot of prep work done over the last month or so however.

My office overlooks this stretch of Dundas and I expect there to be a ton of noise and whatnot... Maybe a good time to invest in some noise cancelling headphones.
-I will try to take a picture every day I'm there to show progress and maybe make some kind of timelapse/montage when it's done.

Buses rerouted to Queen and King forever.

Road fully closes tomorrow.

(Window has more glare than I thought, sorry!)

Really excited about this project being that I have lived downtown for the last 5 years. I hope some people wanting a meth clinic/crack house nearby doesn't derail the beauty of this project.

I really like this plan and will help bring back Dundas to it`s former glory. Dundas 40 years ago was THE street in the city to see and be seen and now it is a place to avoid and this will greatly change that.

From the pics am I correct in saying that both the sidewalks and street itself will be replaced by brick? I only have one concern.........the tree planters look great and help add warmth to the street but they seem quite wide and could inhibit the creation of more outdoor patios & cafes. How much wider will the actual sidewalks be as opposed to now?

Day 1, April 10: Dundas now closed to general traffic

Cross streets like Talbot still open at Dundas

I take Riverside / Dundas into downtown and it was backed up to Warncliffe at 7:45 this morning. Down to one lane at Ridout. Hopefully that is just temporary!

EDIT: Why is there a lane ending sign on Riverside / Dundas EB if both right turns are open to Ridout? No wonder there was so much confusion this morning. I have emailed project staff to see why that's there.

Came through there this morning and both eastbound lanes were open on Dundas at Ridout to allow both lanes to turn right.

But was the left lane ends sign still there?

Day 2, April 11: Pedestrian barricades going up.

Received a reply about the confusing left lane ends sign today:

"It was setup on the Tuesday, there was work at the middle of the intersection for checking a few things at the manhole. The workers opened up the lanes afterward but did not remove the reduced lane signs afterward. This was discussed with the contractor this morning, Wednesday, and the lane reduced sign should be removed by the end of today."

Very happy to hear the meth clinic will be having 2nd thoughts about putting it so close to this area. Thought this was a pointless project for a few days.
