Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area, Idaho

Easter Sunday, 2010
A few friends and I headed south of Boise to the Birds of Prey and Snake River Canyon which is 20 miles off of I-84 and just under an hours drive from downtown Boise. This area is North America's densest concentration of and one of the world's densest locations for birds of prey. http://www.blm.gov/id/st/en/fo/four_rivers/01.html

The Peregrine Fund has their headquarters in another location off of Cole Road closer to Boise also called The World Center for Birds of Prey. There is a visitors center and buildings that house birds such as California Condors, among other rare birds, that are almost extinct. http://www.peregrinefund.org/default.asp

Their website has a link to falcons and their eggs on top of an office tower in downtown Boise. http://www.peregrinefund.org/falconcam/

So, here are a lot of photos I took from above the canyon, in the canyon and from a hike along the cliffs. Our goal was to get all of the way into Wees Bar which has one of the largest known concentrations of ancient petroglyphs in North American dating back 10,000 years, but we ran out of time and had to head back to the car. Maybe I will get out there again soon and earlier in the day and get some more pics. This is an amazing area, you can feel the ancient vibes while boulder hopping along the cliffs.

Soon to be a lunch for a bird or two

The Owyhee Mountains south of the Canyon

Looking north across the desert to the Boise Mountains from the same location I took the two pics above.

Sawtooth, thanks for this thread. I am currently living out of state in the East and really enjoy your threads of Boise and the nature ones you have posted of Idaho, especially your mountain lakes thread. You always do good, and create some really interesting and classy threads, your variety is amazing. Who would think that a person can come to this forum and see a thread of the Snake River. Again, thanks!
