Thanks for the pics. I don't recall ever seeing 3 cranes uptown at the same time, good to see.

The Telegraph has workers back on site working doing interior work from what I can tell

Taste of Egypt has a sandwich board out indicating their last day at the King St location is May 16th and moving to East Point; and the insurance broker moved to Somerset St. - looking forward to seeing those buildings as rubble. I’m curious how much of a head start they’ll have on digging out the foundation seeing buildings were already there. May be a huge cost savings.

I know massive development like this hasn’t happened in a while, but there seems to be a disconnect when it comes to approved plans not being followed and the city learning about it after the fact (The AtTINtic as another example). Maybe developers should provide city with proof the proper materials are ordered instead of finding out after installation. Process needs to be tightened. Looks like heritage committee will approve the alterations and work will continue.

The 300 Sydney St project developer is an experienced developer from B.C. - so hopefully no issues with them. Be 110 construction jobs for 2 years. $36M to build; $660K annual taxes; cement fibre cladding, not metal
I received corrected information on The Telegraph. Here is the update:
- changes that were made were requested by the city long after the project had started
- the window type and manufacturer were approved by the heritage board
- lack of transoms due to supply chain issues caused by COVID

Anyone think there will be an alley way from King Street to the city market side entrance? (Entry is directly across from where the property abuts adjoining property

Someone bought this vacant lot at 171 Prince William. It was listed for $85K and frankly I don't know how much you would have to spend to do anything with it, unless you acquired the lots to its west and/or north.

I despise seeing that nice lot to the right of it used for parking for an insurance business. So prime - then polluted with a bunch of ugly signs warning cars will be towed. Hopefully not purchased for more parking -

Nice shot of Uptown Saint John from harbour passage. All 3 tower cranes are visible in the photo.

With all this uptown construction, we should turn Market Square into a water park. Who's with me?

I can see a giant waterslide going between the Aquatic Centre and Market Square, with a clear tube over St Patrick St. 😁

Worries me that I can't tell if this is a joke or not.

I’m obviously not serious, especially about the water slide, but I think Market Square is under-utilized, and would make a great space for fun stuff like a water park, though it will likely never happen.

In any case, it’s a good time to be creative.

I really wish they had proceeded with the original plan for a new NB Museum structure on the opposite side of Market Slip. Had they done this, it would have freed up significant space. I would propose, to balance out the current public/private development, that a new public library on King's Square opposite the Imperial would create a nice balance of King's Square being a cultural node. A library, theatre, the market, and the fire hall museum surrounding the square makes it a great cultural space.

If both the library and museum were to be moved into new facilities, then I could totally see a casino being a nice asset for Market Square. It can become an entertainment hub - restaurants, hotels, bars, conference space and a casino would be a real draw for both tourism and meetings.

A casino may be a reasonable idea, as long as it’s balanced with more “family friendly” attractions at Fundy Quay.
