Menil, Montrose and Rothko

I love the Menil Collection. One of my favorite buildings in Houston. You have to understand its history though.

The building was a museum to be built in a residential neighborhood of shingle style homes. So the architect made the museum only as tall as the two story houses and gave the building a shingle style exterior. He also placed the parking a block away and put art sculptures on the lawn as people entered the building.
