Montrose Collective is coming soon with shops, restaurants, new library

Quote:
Montrose Collective, a mixed-use development set to house the relocated Freed-Montrose library, has broken ground, according to a press release.

The project, by Houston-based Radom Capital and designed by Austin-based Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, will span 100,000 square feet of office space, 50,000 square feet of retail space and 10,000 square feet of library space across four buildings. It will include six restaurants and 15 retail spaces, both first-to-market and local. The project is estimated to be completed late 2021 and is located at the 800 block of Westheimer Road.

The entire Collective will consist of three new constructions and two repurposed historic buildings. This project is the fifth collaboration between Radom and Hsu – one such past project is the M-K-T in the Heights.

“We worked to infuse the creative character and energy of the Montrose neighborhood into every aspect of the design,” Michael Hsu, founder and principal of Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, said in the release.

The ground level of the project will include cafes, retail and boutique fitness, while the upper floor will have office, beauty and service businesses, along with the library. The library will have an outdoor planted reading terrace, children’s programming and new technology. It will have onsite property management, structured parking and 24-hour security.

Current tenants at the space, per its website, include Rosemont, Southside Espresso and Hue Salon.

I take it this is going where that Greek restaraunt and the HPD substation was correct and not the corner of Westminster and Montrose? Judging Uchi's location in relation to this...

Montrose Collective is dope. I wonder if it will be glazed brick or conventional brick on the facade. Either way, if they don't skimp on materials that will be a damn good-looking project.

Some HAIF updates from TXDOT of 59/610 interchange plus the new transit center south of Uptown:

The new transit center that will connect Park&Ride Buses from SW Houston to Uptown's new BRT. The upper level will be Park&ride connections and lower level will be BRT/local buses. In between will be parking.

New Connector from 59 to 610S plus direct connector to Bissonnet (I think)

New Connector from 610W to 59S plus direct connector to Chimney Rock

Texas A&M to build $550 million complex in Houston's Texas Medical Center

Quote:
The Texas A&M University System on Thursday will announce plans to build a $550 million complex in the Texas Medical Center, its most ambitious attempt yet to establish a significant presence in the elite Houston hub of health institutions.

The complex will occupy 5.5 acres at the southern border of the main medical center campus and comprise an 18-story academic building for the specialized engineering medicine program on which Texas A&M and Houston Methodist are partnering; a 19-story student housing building; and a 30-story medical office building. All three will tout the A&M logo.

A&M will be almost across the street from UT (Health). The Aggie building too far left/ bottom corner is existing BoA currently being renovated about halfway finished.

Wow. This is big news. Not only across the UT main campus but right near the major light rail stop in the TMC.

Gateway Station is just begging to be built now... if it still has legs.

It would actually occupy the space behind the medical office tower & the student housing tower, where the existing TMC transit center is.

Thanks for the update!

I visit HAIF a lot but its too hard to digest all the posts there.

I noticed today driving down 59 that you can definitely see the new Hines tower making its mark. I can't wait till that one is done, it is going to really bulk up the skyline.
