All the windows are gone now from the main floor on the Georgia Street side.

I'd love to know how this project got exempted from dust control. The side facing the QE theatre is a freaking dust bowl, which makes for very unpleasant surroundings.

Don't most projects have to use water sprays to keep the dust under control?

It’s hard to believe those skinny vertical beams are going to hold up 2 large towers.

I'm pretty certain they won't. The reason for the big slots cut in the existing building is because the new towers will come up from the basement, through the original steel frame. I had assumed it'll be concrete frame towers, as that's more cost effective in Vancouver, usually, but I guess we'll see in a while.

I hadn't heard that before. I thought I had read somewhere that the building was built like a bunker and was strong enough to support a significant structure on top of it. Then I saw those skinny posts...

Looking at the rendering I can see the new columns. Never noticed before. They're huge!

That's the Hamilton Street ground floor underneath.

There was a tunnel, but it went out the opposite side. The post office had a conveyor tunnel to the CP station. It was backfilled a few years back though.

Maybe those cutouts relate to the mailbox drop zones that used to exist along Georgia? They weren't the traditional kind of mailboxes.

Are those doorways new or old?
I think the west doorway lines up with this unexcavated part (on which there is a rock).

i thought they looked old from the pics since they look a little too perfectly cut out with what looks like a recessed frame on them.
