Tomorrow, planning committee will consider removing the holding previsions to permit the construction of two more mixed use buildings at West 5.

https://pub-london.escribemeetings.c...cumentId=91487

There are not many details in the document (such as the # of stories, site plan or renderings), but the map shows that this site is at the northwest corner of Riverbend and Linkway, which is immediately south of the retirement home currently under construction.

Interesting to see what they are building as the document you have linked appears to be everything BUT the main ~10 story building. If you look at the old site plans there does appear to be a smaller 5 or 6 story building which steps down to 3 where the site meets the retirement buildings.

Seems odd they would just build those buildings, unless the main site is already approved?

The West5 website has a map showing the proposed developments within the area. Also has a 3D rendering feature.

Planning committee unanimously approved this. Goes to full council on May 3rd.

It also looks like there is another holding-provision removal request for West 5 at the next planning committee meeting (on Monday). This time, it is to permit the development of the park and the entertainment pavilion at 1300 Riverbend Road.

https://pub-london.escribemeetings.c...cumentId=91700

The park will be bounded by Oxford St to the south, Riverbend Rd to the west, and Linkway Blvd to the north, as well as future development to the east.

Here is a rendering from West 5's website of what this may look like. I believe this would be looking southwest towards the Oxford/Riverbend intersection. If you go to West 5's website (link in the above comment), you can see more renderings.

That will be good to see at least start to get done. People are living there now at a pretty penny for rent, and this is one of the amenities that rent is supposed to include. I'm sure they don't want to wait for 10 more years or longer while the area is fully built out before recreational aspects start getting done.

London’s West 5 to become Ontario’s first net-zero mixed-use community
https://canada.constructconnect.com/...-use-community

Six years in the making, the first net-zero mixed-use community in Ontario is taking shape in London.

A 70-acre development called West 5, it sets energy precedents that can help open doors for other green-conscious developments.

“The entire community will consume about 10 megawatts of energy which will be produced in the community” through solar means, Neil Carter, director of commercial construction, Sifton Properties Limited, one of West 5’s developers, told an audience recently at a Canada Green Building Council webinar on the project.

That solar power will be generated from panels on the roofs of all of its buildings, including a parking garage, and from solar arrays incorporated into many of the building’s facades.

When built out in 10 to 15 years, the neighbourhood will have 2,000 residential units and up to 400,000 square feet of commercial/retail space, Carter said....

New fencing has went up surrounding most of the "legacy square" areas which also seems to incorporate the play area they have mapped on the website from the initial plans.

There is also new construction on the area directly across from the Helio apartments, which is still not clear what portion of that building(s) they are starting with. Looks like Sifton is planning an active Spring/Summer which is good for the project.

They got some of the 6th floor slabs on the east side of phase 2 of the retirement building installed prior to the construction trades union strike. They have installed some of the windows already on the lower floors

Going back over the thread, I don't see any indication of commercial uses for that plot. It's also possible Sifton doesn't own that land immediately NE of the intersection of Oxford and Westdel.

Roof top structural steel for mechanical penthouse now installed on phase 2 of the retirement building. Excavation for underground level for the new buildings south of the retirement buildings well under way now. They have removed the tower crane and its not clear if they plan to set it up again for one of the new buildings.
