Porto Alegre: beauty, greenery and density, seen from the air

All photos can be found at Google Building Maker. I print-screened and mounted them on GIMP

01 -western area of Porto Alegre downtown (north is up)

02 - a bit more to the right, the Alfandega Square.

03 - at the right botton corner of photo 2, we can see a tiny bit of Matriz Square.
Here we see it whole, and around it, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Justice Palace, São Pedro Theater, Piratini Palace (governor office) and Farroupilha Palace (State Legislative building). North is on the left

04 - density of streets at the core of downtown Porto Alegre. The Public Market and the two administrative buildings of Porto Alegre city hall. (north is up)

05 - with north on the right, the Borges de Medeiros Avenue canyon, cutting the photo in half, on the horizontal

06 -

07 - Moinhos de Vento (Windmills) neighborhood, with that central street with commercial glass buildings being Coronel Mostardeiro. The Moinhos de Vento Park can be seen on the bottom right

08 - in the center of the photo, an old brewery that was transformed at the Shopping Total. At left, a street that became a tree tunnel. In the bottom, Moinhos de Vento hospital (a tiny corner of it). (north is on the right). Despite the commercial highrises, we are 3,5 km away from downtown

09 - More Moinhos de Vento neighborhood, with Sheraton Hotel in the center (north is up)

10 - not sure what neighborhood is this, but on the top right we see the Third Perimetral Avenue, with several commercial buildings. We are 6km away from downtown. North is up.

11 - crossing of Third Perimetral with Nilo Peçanha Avenue.

12 - Menino Deus (Child God )neighborhood. This is SOUTH of downtown. This neighborhood is one of the few of Porto Alegre already included at Google Street View. At right, we see the Diluvio Stream and Ipiranga Avenue. The marker shows the crossing of Getulio Vargas Avenue and Ganzo Avenue.

Very cool. The central city looks dense and vibrant while retaining a more diverse blend of architectural eras and a more human scale than what I've seen of the larger Brazilian cities. Porto Alegre gets the balance right.
