Looks like an improvement to me. The relation between the volumes looks more deliberate. I imagine this will look quite dynamic in person with all of the angles and cladding and facade variation.
I know Loukas Development did The Van Buren mid-rise apartments in Greektown, but have they ever attempted a project of this scale? They may be hoping to land a JV partner on this one.
Also, I'm assuming there's an ideal plan for these residential towers to reconcile the FAR with views and floorplate optimization etc. of these larger, squarish sites of old meat-packing facilities. Probably not a coincidence that the form of this one is similar to that of 1234 Randolph.
