When you're searching, then the address is important. Just remember that the north or west side of a street are even numbered addresses while south or east side of a street is odd numbered. A lot of these projects are under different address permit wise though which is why my map helps cut down the amount of time to find things by a lot. With things like this, visual representation can be much easier. Also, for whatever reason, the permit I posted doesn't show up under the simple application to check building permit status. The database hosted on data.cityofchicago.org has it though.
The id represents the actual record for a specific permit - it's unique to the permit. Application number is useful for other reasons.
