Parking. Unlike the Queen's Marque they didn't dig down much so most (all?) parking is above ground.

Also, the finish is ceramic.

New feature for those following my new website. I've created a "Projects We're Following" page (top right). The links take you to the unique tag associated with that project. To remain SSP forum friendly, I will post photos sometimes from my blog to SSP project threads. Clicking on the link here will take you to the project's tag which will show all of the posts I have of that project. Feel free to posts additional photos on the forum that you feel belong. Just make sure to add a link to my website. Here's an example;

So, the fact this is called "The Cunard" and it essentially looks like a cruise ship is not a coincidence I assume? (I'm sometimes not the quickest knife in the marquee).

The original renderings looked even more like a cruise ship with a lot fewer right angles and a lot more curved corners. I think it looked better that way.

I agree - it's really quite ugly and imposing in person. Sad for such a prominent location on the waterfront and in the skyline. Hopefully will be better once it's finished and the retail area is built out, but overall disappointing from a developer that has become known for pretty good design and materials.

Terrible looking building, seems each iteration of the design devolved over the years to this. I remember a striking curvy white building in the early renderings which seemed perfectly suited to its amazing location, see page 6 of this thread to view. We have lots of garbage like this in Vancouver, most from over a decade ago. Perhaps this will serve as a lesson to whoever approves buildings is such highly visible and important spots in the future.

There should be a law:

Agree completely. Expected better from Southwest, at least based on what I can see so far.

I don't think it's turned out as bad as all that--it's fine, it's just underwhelming. A background building, despite its prominent location. A big part of the problem is all that light blue and seafoam. I don't recall any of that in the earlier contrast. I mean, compare and contrast.

Certainly the original "cruise ship run aground" version with all of its curves was more attractive than what we ended up with. Hard to understand why/how Southwest decided to go with what we got in the end, but the cynic in me wonders if the HRM "design review" process with local gadflys and non-expert "experts" being critical of the original proposal and requiring many iterations of the design resulted in this. I suppose we should be grateful they didn't require a faux-Victorian with fake stone cladding as would have been the case a few decades ago.
