My new lens: Nikkor 85mm 1.4D AF

I finally bit the bullet the other week and picked up a fresh lens. This is my first new lens since I bought my D200. For over a year, I've been using my 18-200mm VR, and the time came to try something different. I hunted for a used one, but no one had any to sell, so I had to buy it new. It was costly. Needless to say, it has opened up a whole new world through my camera. I'm pretty intimidated by this piece of equipment to be honest. Hopefully, I'll learn how to take advantage of it.

Here is my first batch of pictures

So you bit the bullet and got it. Very cool. Looks very sweet and very fun. I really like the kicking the ball and the sleeping in the street ones.

Have you done much prime stuff in the past (other cameras of course since you've been using the 18-200 for a while now)?

I found after nabbing a 50mm F/1.4 prime that walking around with it for a few weeks really opened up new ways of seeing things for me.

The D200 is my first DSLR/SLR camera, so this is my first time doing anything prime related.

No old regular SLR in your past then. I'm hoping you get the same bit of creative euphoria I got out of my first prime lens, not that creative quality has ever been lacking in your stuff. I'm surprised you're even on the forum right now.

These shots only get me more excited about getting the D200 early next year. Love this one's progressively advancing DOF.

Wow! Striking images!

I've been using the D200 and 18-200VR for a few months, now, and playing with the idea of getting a prime lens. These sure move me in that direction.

85 looks like it might be a more useful focal length than 50mm on digital. These are beautiful images too.

Awesome! There's nothing quite like fast glass. I can't wait to see more of what you'll do with this lens.

Thanks, guys. I'm slowly adjusting to it as time goes on. One of the biggest differences is the bokeh effect. It is really pronounced with the 85mm. Another thing I've noticed is that it takes very sharp skyline shots with a high aperture.

Here's a shot from my window taken a few nights ago

Here's another picture with a more subtle bokeh effect
